Cam Stewart 6'8" 254 LB TE

Looking at the updated roster, I noticed Cam Stewart a Freshman 254 lb 6'8" TE has been added to the squad. Only thing I could find on him was on LinkedIn. He graduated from HS in 2012 and was a pitcher in the Padres organization for 2 years. Didn't look he has ever played football.
Just curious about him. Looks like an interesting story.

Logic says, at some height, the QB only has to throw the ball high enough that the super tall guy is the only guy who can catch the ball. Is 6' 8" that height?

I would suspect that the coaching staff is asking the same question and will find the answer. If by chance he can, then I would also suspect you`ll have some folks on the coaching staff going, " Hmmmmm.... "

At only 254 lbs, I'm not sure he'll have the weight to block against linemen. However, I will bow to CNS knowledge on this one. I do hope I am pleasantly surprised. Most minor league baseball players have college tuition paid if it doesn't work out in baseball. Does this mean, he doesn't use a schollie?

He's a old freshman. OJ is gone after this season. If he's got soft hands he could be trouble down the middle of the field with that size.

Cam attended Valley Christian in San Jose, CA. It's a private coed school, 1st grade to 12th . Usually a powerhouse in football at the 6A level. They're good in most sports. My niece was a " lifer" meaning she was there from 1st to graduation. most of their football players get schollies from D1 schools in the West Coast. should be interesting to see if he can make the team. with his height and athleticism I don't see why not..

So, we have a 22 year old freshman from Cali that signed $100k baseball contract with the Padres out of high school. He's the size of a basketball player (played some in highschool I believe) with athleticism (pitched right batted left) and a mature Christian leader (according to his LinkedIn page). I assume he is paying his own way at Alabama and could have gone to any college he wanted to but ended up in Tuscaloosa. Think the guy is on a mission?

I don`t know, a couple or three of these "older" guys and hopefully maybe a different perspective sprinkled in with all the young, entitled pups ? Might not be such a bad thing.

I wouldn't be shocked if he easily get playing time throughout the season. I can see him taking Howard spot next year if he continues to improve.
