Haven’t posted in a while, but wanted do drop in again to share with great excitement that I’m cancer free! After a PET scan this past Monday and a follow up with my oncologist on Friday (yesterday) we’ve decided to pause treatment for the foreseeable future. The best he can tell there are no signs of cancer anywhere. I’m exceedingly grateful to be here today because with a five year survival rate for my type—intrahepatic bile duct cancer—and at this stage—3b—at a mere 8%, my odds five years back were pretty lousy. It is by nothing short of a miracle that I made it out of the hospitals in Athens and Atlanta alive after two bouts with severe sepsis, yet by God’s grace, here I am.

Recurrence is always a possibility, but with regular bloodwork (every six weeks) and regular scans (every 3 to 4 months), we’ll be able to catch anything pretty early and jump back on treatment (or explore other treatments not available a year ago, let alone five years ago). We’re running bloodwork now to see if there are any rogue cancer cells floating around, but for now, I remain optimistic.IMG_5649.jpeg
