CB Janzen Jackson is official visiting LSU the team is a soft verbal to this weekend and Alabama on Jan. 30. I think he will stay with LSU but you never know what will happen if he visits Bama.

I never had heard that Quinn Giles was a Bama CB prospect. He has never been on the Tide Fans prospect list but he is scheduled for an official visit Jan. 30. He just committed to La. Tech. but he says that he is still visiting Bama on Jan. 30. I will add him as a prospect.

LA Tech gets Commitment Number 25

Bama Mag: Official visit list (1/30)

this would be a nice get but I don't see it happening but as CS stated, anything possible since we get a visit....RTR:BigA:

CB Janzen Jackson Update (1/25): He talks about his LSU visit

LSU soft commit Janzen Jackson said he is even more secure with his commitment to LSU after his official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend. He says that he is considering cancelling his scheduled official visit to Bama next weekend on Jan. 30th. I have not held out much hope that Bama would be able to sign him and now that looks to be extremely unlikely.

good luck to the young man at LSU! he is his own man, not following his father to UT if indeed his father gets hire.

LSU might end up with the No.#1 class when its all said and done.

we shall see...but we all know that great talent assembled doesn't mean squat if the coaching isn't there.

I am not losing any sleep at all if all these prospects on our board don't commit to Alabama, I am truly happy with our current class and believe we will be very satisfy with them years down the line!!

One interesting thing about Jackson...

With Jackson's father now leaving Lake Charles for a job with Miami (Ohio), and taking all of his immediately family with him, suddenly LSU is no longer the "home" team, and in fact are the farthest away of his final three. Baton Rouge was only about two hours away from his family, but now that is much different.

Knoxville is suddenly the closest to Oxford, Ohio, coming in at only about four and a half hours away. Tuscaloosa is second closest, though in all fairness it's still a good nine hour drive. Baton Rouge, however, is the farthest away, at right about a fifteen hour drive depending on how you hit traffic in the bigger cities, so it's pretty much a two-day trip.

I imagine he'll still stick with LSU, but he is visiting us this weekend, and a good number of Tennessee people think they will get him.

Now that other schools can no longer contact him (except for their 1 per week telephone call), I'll go on record as saying that I believe that Janzen Jackson is the 'mystery commit' which Scout.com's Andrew Bone mentioned in his weekly chat at TideSports.com. I have no inside information, but present as evidence:

(1) - LSU wants Janzen to play cornerback. CNS wants him to play safety. While he played both positions in high school, Janzen has stated he prefers playing safety.

(2) - He became much more interested in Bama when co-defensive coordinators Bradley Dale Peveto (who was recruiting Janzen) and Doug Mallory (who would have been Janzen's position coach) left LSU. Peveto took a job at Northwestern State and Mallory took a job at New Mexico, both at significantly lower salaries than they earned at LSU.

(3) - While Jackson's father, Lance Guidry, supported Janzen's initial decision to commit to LSU, he also likes and respects Coach Saban.

(4) - Janzen's father, Lance Guidry, accepted an assistant coaching position at Miami University (Ohio) early last week (officially announced yesterday) and the family's imminent move will end the in-state pressure on Janzen to attend LSU. Guidry was previously employed as an assistant coach at McNeese State.

(5) - Janzen Jackson took an official visit to Alabama this weekend.

(6) - Janzen's signing is tentatively scheduled for 7 PM on NSD which suggests it won't be held at his school, thereby avoiding a potentially hostile crowd if he doesn't sign with the home state school.

(7) - Janzen is rated as a 5-star on Rivals, but is a 4-star on Scout.com (Andrew Bone's primary employer). He therefore meets the '4-star' criteria Bone used to describe the 'surprise commit'.

Maybe I'm totally off base, but that's my reading of the tea leaves.

This might have been true of the old D coaching staff, but with a new staff in place and a different system, JJ might have been told he could play safety. We need both in a bad way, as any game save the last showed that we were very weak in the secondary.
He said a couple of days ago that he was pretty solid to LSU after the new coaches talked to him, as he started looking around after BDP and DM moved on. I am hoping that he stays that way.

I hope that we can turn Jackson, but I'm not betting on it. Even with all of the foregoing, I still expect that he will sign with LSU.

And you can officially close the book on Jackson... he returned from his visit to Alabama and said that he was still solid to LSU.

If signing day was a couple of weeks ago, I think JJ would have been at Bama. Hiring Ron Cooper (no Saban, but a pretty good DB coach) from SCar probably saved us.

Sucks, but things like this happens, He has a bright future! The Bama-LSU games are probably now the 2nd most intense game of the year for us now! of course laying it all on those barners is the 1st...

The Cooper hire definitely helped, but in the end I think we were mainly fighting a playing time issue with Jackson. As much as the LSU secondary struggled last year, he's guaranteed a good bit of meaningful playing time there as a true freshman, and that's just really something we couldn't offer.

No doubt about it, though, he ought to be a very good one. I think it's a great pick-up for LSU.
