Precisely.

We should all remember the day Cecil turned the corner on Mike Shula. It's hard to say where he will fall on the future of CMG, but by no means is this the "stay the course, help is on the way" message he could have penned.

I thought this was a pretty good column. I do believe that CMG should get one more year.
If Hendrix stays, Steele comes back healthy, and Green is as good as advertised(which he is)
we should be a contender in the West.
But should the above player scenario indeed happen.....it would be time I think for a "no more excuses" philosophy from Mal Moore.

All that you mentioned are ifs,but one thing for certain if no changes are made in the coaching of this team we will be lucky to break 50& in conference.

Interestingly, I spent an hour or so examining this exact issue two nights ago.

Besides the "ones you gave a scholarship to that you shouldn't have," let me also point out that there is also an issue with wasted time and effort recruiting those individuals that could have been spent elsewhere.

Cecil mentions Jukes, Cloyd, and Riley. What about Glenn Miles, Albert Weber, and Ray George? An investment was made, without return. That's 6 players' worth of recruiting investment without any significant contribution. And I'm not knocking the players, here, because if Alabama had offered me a scholarship to play ball, my 5' 10" butt would have signed at 12:01 am on signing day.

However, this is all simply another piece of information filed under "Missed Opportunities in Alabama Athletics."

Those are the players I've been wondering about. I wonder if they just didn't have the talent to keep up or if the 7 man rotation we play while complaining about no depth is what made them move on?

If memory serves, George did not qualify academically coming out of Jr. College. I thought that one of the mods, Tide-HSV or the others, indicated that Miles had an aversion to going to class. He may have been nudged out. If I'm wrong on Miles, someone please correct me.

My bet is that Weber didn't like the 7-man rotation. Jukes and Cloyd probably were mis-evaluated and shouldn't have been signed; that's just my opinion.

Salty, here is the answer to your question on another post of why a "good" recruiter can't build a program.

Gotta have a lot of respect for Cecil's knowledge of Tide sports. Anybody else feel he was holding back somewhat, opting for the diplomatic route? That's probably the safer choice for now. When the time is right, he will unleash the wolves.

I just can't see what this program can gain by waiting another year before making coaching moves. If we have to endure another year, we might win 55 to 60 percent of our games, certainly nothing to get excited about. But, the worse part of waiting is that Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida continue to build greater programs, making it even more difficult for us to compete. The rest of the SEC is not waiting on us to catch up.

We need to get this wounded ship back to port and start some serious refurbishing.
