Sticking with the call – the Georgia defense we saw all season long was going to show up large for the mini-tournament – from the moment the College Football Playoff pairings were announced, Georgia is the team of 2021, and it’s about to show it.

Alabama’s D will be amazing, too. Georgia will have a hard time moving the ball – especially after the initial adrenaline rush slows down – but the defense will hold serve time and time again.

There will be one giant Alabama big play for a score – and it might happen in the first five minutes – but the O will settle for field goal after field goal as the Dawgs will look and play like they have 14 defenders on the field as the game goes on.

This won’t be anything pretty, but it’ll be intense throughout – it’ll always feel like the dam is about to break at any moment and Alabama will take over – but no one knows better than Saban that destructive defenses win national titles.

I won't either! I have read through both Bama and UGA boards, as well as several articles and watched the TV personalities make some strange predictions. There are some common, perhaps unsubstantiated, themes that have emerged: (1) UGA is all of a sudden going to put together a near-perfect game and win; (2) A non-elite UGA quarterback is suddenly going to play "lights-out" against the Bama defense; (3) It's near impossible to beat the same team twice in a season, blah, blah, blah. Each of these and other strange themes can be easily refuted, so I won't bother doing so here.

I will say, though, that a couple of things that I have thought of are: (1) BY this year has customarily followed up a less than stellar game with a very good performance (e.g., after UF, see USM game stats; after TAMU, see MSU game stats; after AU, see SECCG stats)--not to guarantee that he will go off, but there is definitely a pattern in this small sample size, and honestly, I expect him to have a better game than vs Cincy, although he wasn't bad there; and (2) In the previous eights games between UGA and Bama in the Saban era, Bama is 7-1, having won 7 in a row, and the average margin of victory is about 35-24. In fact, only once in those 8 games has UGA scored above 28 (30 in the 2008 loss, after Bama took the foot off the gas at halftime with the 31-0 lead), while in 6 of the 8 games Bama scored between 32-41 points. Call me a crimson homer, and UGA could certainly have an amazing performance Monday night, but the previous H2H results suggest otherwise.

If UGA wins, it will mean that they played the better overall game and Bama was not at their best. Otherwise, I expect Bama to win, probably something close to the score mentioned above, and I believe in this team. Win or lose, it's been an incredible year. Roll Tide!

Not surprising. Cowherd comes from a world of rematches and has seen enough of real rematches to know what they usually are.

He picked 27-23 UGA a month ago for the SECCG

Now it's 26-23 UGA

I guess he thinks we are only a slightly a better team even though we already beat UGA by THREE Scores.

I love that he gets to be Wrong about both teams TWICE.

This new narrative about how "THIS time the REAL UGA will show up" is freaking HILARIOUS.

I almost hate to say this but 11 of their "experts" pick Alabama to win vs 4, including Fiutak, who pick UGA. The only one I've heard of besides Fiutak is Clucko the Chicken, probably the most prescient, who thankfully picks Bama :). Most of them seem to work for team websites, including UGAWire.com, whose writer, Joe Vitale, picked Alabama.
