Like he's not going to put them back on no matter what the players do (or don't do) in practice. Silly!
They've won a national title and played for one in the last ten years. They've only really had like one below average year under Mack Brown.Charlie Strong is doing exactly what he should be doing at Texas. They've felt like all they needed to do was show up for a LONG time. He's giving them a dose of wake the heck up. He's seriously earning my respect. And let me tell you, at a place like Texas that can recruit some very good talent, the discipline he's instilling (which is exactly what they've been lacking) will have them back in the title hunt within 3-4 years. If I were a Longhorn fan, I'd be through-the-roof ecstatic with what he's been doing.
I'm thinking the same thing. "Don't mess with Texas" sometimes is true especially when it comes to football.I'm afraid Charlie won't survive the season at Texas.
They weren't chumps in '09. They weren't chumps with Mack. No one's saying that. But they have gotten a bit soft. They have gotten a bit entitled. "They're Longhorns, darnit!" As if that by itself means something. He hasn't removed the Longhorn logo from the helmet for the season, or even for a single game. He's removed it for fall camp. His message is the same as Herm's:They've won a national title and played for one in the last ten years. They've only really had like one below average year under Mack Brown.
They gave us a tremendous effort even when they lost Colt McCoy in the BCS Game. No, that wasn't the difference, but it certainly didn't hurt us. Give us the credit for knocking him out, rather than them making excuses.
They haven't exactly "stunk" since 2009.
This, to me, is like a Ray Perkins move, tearing down the tower. It's not necessary, it tears down a tradition, and it really kinda sucks.
This is "I'm the man now", over common sense type philosophy.
Charlie's building a wall for himself that he wasn't expected to climb.
I can't believe he did this.
Why not just coach the team and be the best you can be?
Losing tradition is not the way to build a championship football team.
Name one guy who's ever done it, at any university.
It's not gonna happen.
Tradition rules, and the fans get extremely p.o'ed when it's taken away for no apparent reason.
Texas has been good and great long before Charlie Strong and he's not the savior of a dying program.
He better learn that in a hurry or he's going to be Charlie "Blip on the radar".

I thought he should have held out another year and let Florida fire Muschamp. I just think he's a better fit in the SEC.Just wish he wasn't at Texas; I kinda like him as a coach. Wish they had got Fulmer.
I guarantee you that Texas will be a tough out this year. CCS knows defense and with the talent pool that he have to work with, that defesne will be special. His Psychology 101 tactics are not going to give him what he wants.....
I agree, Strong is in the process of changing the mindset and the culture of the team. Which will do wonders for the program. Everyone knew very well the false mindset of Texas living off past glory while racking up mediocre season after season. I'm happy to see Strong having the guts to do what he needs to do to get away from the status quo. That program had grown as soft as a baby's bottom over the past 5 years. Nobody was a afraid to "mess with Texas."
Things like this may not mean much in the grand scheme, but they send a message to the entitled people that have permeated that program. And that message is, that not even the smallest of things is to be taken for granted anymore.
I can't stand Texas, but Strong is doing what he needs to do, IMO.
I don't think that is what he is trying to do. I think he is instilling in his players that it is an honor and a privilege to represent the University of Texas. I think he is simply making a statement to the players, not messing with tradition. As others have said, there will be a logo on the helmet come their first game. They've won a national title and played for one in the last ten years. They've only really had like one below average year under Mack Brown.
