He's one of the most underappreciated legends of the game, and I recently had a friendly email debate with Rob Neyer of espn.com about his selection of Lou Boudreau as the greatest Indians shortstop of all time in his new book. He gave some pretty weak justifications for listing him ahead of Joe, but I thought I clearly had the more convincing argument.

I was totally oblivious to the fact that he played football too, until I was wandering around the Bryant Museum today and saw him in a team photo with his brother Luke from I believe 1919.

They say all records are made to be broken. I say that Joe Sewell's record of only 3 strikeouts in a major league season will never be broken.

Joe Sewell is most deserving of being in the Hall of Fame.

i went to the Baseball Hall of Fame and i found Joe Sewell plaque in the Hall and it gave me goose bumps. Joe Sewell may very well have been the greatest contact hitter that has ever played the game.

I found an autograph picture of him in Cooperstown and the guy running the shop didn't even know who he was, much less that he was actually in the Hall.

He is definitely one of the most underrated hitters ever!

Amazing. Today, guys strike out 114 times in a season. Sewell did it in his career. 115 games in a row without a K. Are you kidding me?! Most impressive...4 seasons with 4 k's or less with 500+ AB's. A true legend of the game overshadowed by Ruth and Gehrig. Cooperstown should add..."Most under-rated player in the history of the game."
