Chris Fowler stunk it up

I agree. He was pathetic. He made mistakes a man in his 80's would make. Wrong names, not seeing fumbles, not seeing catches, not seeing first downs. Truly awful.

I have been quite vocal in my dislike of Chris Fowler. I dislike him as anchor for the Gameday crew. He has the personality of a turnip, the football knowledge below the average Joe and no stage presence at all. He would be best left to doing horse races and commercials. Chris Fowler, not Lee Corsoe is the real blemish at ESPN, even worse than Granny Holtz.

The thing I don't like about him is his arrogance. How someone in his position could have the moxy to be arrogant I don't know.

I suppose I'm in the minority but I've always liked Chris Fowler. He seems like a personable guy and that's about all I expect from a talking head, whether he reads the news or calls a football game.

But it's only my 2 cents.

Nobody is worse than Holtz.

I agree when the SC RB Cory Boyd # 3 caught the trick play TD pass, Fowler called out the name of the MSU player Derek Pegues # 3 instead of Cory Boyd. You would think that Fowler would know the name of the SC RB and not have to look at the roster to get the name. He corrected himself after Boyd scored but it was probably after someone in the truck or in the booth pointed it out to him. I have a hard time understanding how a lot of the TV announcers can be so unprofessional calling the games.

How many times did we have to hear the story about #3 getting suspended 22 months ago and his desire is so great which is why he was making plays/?????? gee whiz.

Can we get a petition started to get our own Rece Davis on the GameDay crew??? Of course, we would still want him on the GameDay Final broadcast as well. Maybe he could get a nap or two in at some point during the day ! :D

The reason those guys wear those headsets is because they've got producers, directors, spotters, and all kinda technical stuff happening in there ears at all times.....that is if it's a professionally run outfit. If Fowler was screwing up the play by play, names and numbers and such, he was getting really crappy info from his spotters. I'll bet there'll be some new guys on the job next game. I'm not saying it's not some of his fault too. He's basically a jerk that's never played the game. They're all just a bunch of mouths vomiting up what they're told to say........I could go political on that one but.....nah.
I can take any of these guys or leave them. I usually turn the sound down anyway and put on a tape loop of stadium crowd noise and call the game myself. I'll guarantee you there are several dozen people on this board that could call a better game than anybody I've heard in the last 10 years.

Fowler and Herbstreit did a nice job imo. I've heard MUCH worse...at least he is articulate and intelligent...he doesn't stutter and he explained what was going on on the field pretty well. I recall him missing one obvious catch...other than that he seemed to do alright.

I don't care what anyone says Mark May is the worse by far. Doesn't he look like the kid in the wheel chair on malcom in the middle. when he starts talking I turn the channel his voice is like finger nails on a chalkboard

Seriously, is anyone really THAT good on ESPN, save reece? ( call it a bias opinion if you want. :) ) They all grind on me at some point. Fowler has been there FOREVER too. Anyone remember scholastic sports america? Yeah, he started on that show. Anyway, not fond of him now either. I know it's a popular show but I just have a hard time watching it.

Thank you. May is HORRIBLE. He is actually considered an analyst by ESPN standards...that's all you need to know about ESPN's college football coverage. College Gameday is great, but other than that, it's subpar at best.

Wow, there is some ESPN hatin' going on in this thread! Curious, if most people on here don't like the analysts on ESPN, then what do you watch for you're college info? I'm not necessarily married to the idea of getting all of my info from ESPN, but what else is there? I don't like local sports shows and FSN is not always great. I don't have any strong feelings for or against anyone on ESPN (except maybe Holtz :mad2:; never hated him as a coach but he has no clue what to do on camera), and I'm surprised at the number of people who dislike their analysts. So, if not ESPN, then what?

Speaking for myself, it's not a matter of "what else is there?" That doesn't really matter and is not the issue. It doesn't matter if it's the only channel out there at all, it doesn't make mediocrity acceptable. Or in some people's views, less than mediocrity :biggrin2:

Oh I still watch it. My point, for me, is that I just cringe sometimes when it is on. The games themselves aren't bad. I think Ron Kelly is one of the best in the business and I believe Mike Patrick is coming back this year (I might be wrong about that) and I like him as well. Gameday is overrated IMO. The wrap up is good but I always like watching the highlights.

I watch, but like I said, sometimes it's just hard.

Other than Mark May and Granny I can stomach it. I kinda wanna retch at times, but at least I can hold it down :)

Heck, even Corso doesn't grate as much as he used to now that Holtz is around

Point taken, but I love college football, thus, I like to watch it analyzed. I don't have a computer in my apt. so I can't get ALL of my info from the internet. I need to watch something, and ESPN satisfies that need. If I hated ESPN like many people on this message board, I'd be pretty starved for football info, that's for sure.

*nod* Understood. And as much as we might dislike what we hear, or who we hear it from, you can tell we're still watching it too, simply because choices are limited.

Not that I hate ESPN, I watch it all the time. Just certain people on it leave me thinking, "surely they could have found someone better."

I do the same thing when I watch NASCAR. I love watching it, but every time someone in the broadcast booth gives an incorrect car number or driver, I wanna spew because it can't be THAT difficult to get someone's name correct.

It's in the same vein.
