Chris Landry football Guru just spent ten minutes speaking on the Bama Coaching search. He said "Bama is doing the right thing in keeping their search quite and being patient". He said "the Alabama Media isn't helping with all their reports". The other guy asked him about "Coach Saban who happens to be a good friend of yours Chris, his name is still being brought up after he said no".

Chris said..."yeah I don't understand the people in Alabama I just saw something again this morning...Look he is not going anywhere he is happy in the direction of the Miami job is taking and is really getting tired of the talk".

Also he said "how many times do you have to say no to someone...its like you keep asking a girl for a date and she says no, does she have to finally get mean and disrespectful before you get it"? Now I hear Chris a lot and he always says nice things about us and is highly thought of. The show aired at this morning 9:45 CST

This is either one of the biggest smokescreens in history or the girl is still thinking about the date. Our old saying is (Can't never could) If you can get her on a dinner date she may be yours for life.

:BigA: We all know that Saban can't officially express interest until the Miami season is done. If there's no way Nicky-poo is coming; why does sexton keep telling alabama that he is interested? Sexton has to be the one that is keeping these rumors going, and there are several reasons he might do so:

1). There's some truth to them.

2). He doesn't like Alabama and wants to hurt our program by trying to make our administration look like idiots.

3). Certain other of his clients are paying him to keep up the rumors in order to discredit alabama in the eyes of the OTHER coaching prospects and dissuade them from coming here.

Whatever the reason I think sexy-boy is involved up to his eyebrows. Saban may be sincerely not interested and has no idea that his own agent is stirring this pot. But in the end it doesn't matter because we are ALABAMA and we will rise again. :BigA: :BigA: Roll Tide:BigA: :BigA:

How do we know that he's continuing to tell us he's interested? It might be that the dealings are off, that ship has sailed and the media is just continuing to bring it up because there's nothing current coming out of the bama camp since the locked down from the RR thiasco.

One thing I didn't mention was the frustration in Chris's voice. Not about us but they way Nick wants to stay at Miami. After Chris left the show the host mentioned Chris in general how "football folks are always asking him questions". And he did say he was a "friend" of Sabans. Now after hearing this I'm somewhat disappointed. I was leaning that CNS was using "Coachspeak" and might really want the job. Now he did mention that Coach Jim Grobe would be a "good Fit at Bama". I'm not sure about that one.

Sexton has earned a reputation as an honest man and an able agent. He counts among his clients many former Bama players, in addition to a number of coaches. If he conspired to screw Bama, he'd never represent another Bama player. Not to mention that he could never receive a conspiracy payoff which would begin to equal what he gets from a new contract. The Bama folk who know him speak highly of him. There's no reason to go out of your way to libel him - particularly if you don't know him and you're just taking shots in the dark...

You're right, Earle. I never thought he would do that because it would cost him much more down the road in lost revenue, clients, reputation, etc.

What makes an agent is his ability to get what he wants without ever burning bridges. Sexton will not screw Bama because it will screw him down the road with potential clients and future dealings with other universities.

Reminds me of this:

Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, that's pretty difficult to say.
Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.

Wouldn't you expect a friend of Coach Saban's to parrot what Coach Saban is saying? What do you expect Chris Landry to say? Something like this:

"Yeah...Coach Saban is trying to assemble a staff to take with him to the University of Alabama when he is finished with the season. He is looking forward to resigning from the Miami Dolphins, getting up to Tuscaloosa, rolling his sleaves up and getting to work. If he can complete the deal in early January then he should be able to complete a strong recruiting class.";)

One other thing...to my knowledge the Alabama media, almost to a person have all come to the conclusion that he's not coming and have even written such. The problem is the Miami Herald...they interviewed Nick two days ago and even though he once again said he wasn't coming, they decided to compare his words to exactly what he said while at LSU. This is no longer the Alabama media...it is the Florida and national media.

So you honestly think Sexton has not been meddling in Alabama's bidness...?

I think had Steve Spurrier had a different type of agent we would not be discussing the coaching search.

His name is often mention in the same way Mortenson and Peter King. If he says it, it's very very credible.
peter king has said for years now that art monk doesn't belong in the hall of fame, and only this year, when michael irvin, who's #s are comparable, is eligible, does he change his tune. this issue alone is enough to make king a joke. but that's a whole other story. the landry comments are disconcerting for us saban hopefuls

Close friend or not why would Saban tell Chris Landry he was considering being our next coach? Some things you just have to keep to yourself even from your spouse. Have you ever told a little white lie to your wife or a close friend to save them from having to do the same?

I don't expect him to come but I see no reason to count him out at least untill someone else is announced as the next coach. He has still got to finish the job he has at hand and then he might just evaluate his future and make a descision one way or another. I have to believe though that we are waiting for someones season to be over before an official announcement is made and it only makes scents to be waiting on an NFL coach. We could have already hired an assistant coach from either the NFL or a college coach so someone has got to have Mal's and Whitt's attention for us to be waiting.

I also believe if Mal had offered anyone else and been turned down it would have been all over the press just as with Rod. I believe that the press folks who are in the inner circles of the NFL are starting to put 2 and 2 together and
thats what all the pressing questions to Saban have been about.

The Nutt rumors I believe are are just plain NUTS!

Chukker, I agree with your take, it makes the most sense to date. IMO Saban has only been in Miami for two seasons, one fair and the other apparently will not be that good. He already has a NC to his credit and aspires to a Super Bowl championship, if not he would have stayed at LSU I believe he is honest when he says that he still has unfinished business in getting Miami back in the NFL elite. I realize that "conspiracy theories" abound surrounding Saban but I have felt from the start of this search that he was a stretch at the very best. Yes, the Alabama job is a fall back for him should he get fired, but IMO he still has another year or two with Miami before they would cut him lose.

Chris has hours like I do. I went to work this afternoon at noon. I just got done reporting Chris 's story. I get home at Midnite and guess who is on live...Chris Landry and the first caller asks about the Bama situation. He didn't mention Coach Saban but talked about how "deserving the Bama folks are and a great a job it is". He went on to say how "Mal needs to have the time and needs others to give him space". He also said "this is got to be a huge hire for the program and he hopes they get the right guy".

To answer a question. I guess you had to hear the show to get a feel on how Chris reacted to the Saban story. Remember he talked more about the Miami situation alot, and how the Coach wanted to remain there.
