The coaching talent has shrunk over the last 5-10 years. Not seeing the next Saban anywhere.
Yup..i would loveeeee too see what Curt Cignetti, could do with the kinda talent at Bama right now..

His style of football is cut, from the same coaching cloth like Coach Saban, that we're used too at Bama..

You mean Demeco Ryans at Houston?
Gotta mean Demeco.

I love McClain the player but he was just arrested again in 2022 on drug and concealed weapon charges.

That's 5 years after being arrested and charged with the exact same offenses in 2017

Not the guy to teach these kids to stop doing the wrong things.

Cut @CajunCrimson a little slack. It’s early in the season and he had a Vern Lundquist moment… 😉😉😉

I'd love to see DeBoer bring in some of Sabans old players and let them at these kids. Not going to happen, but it would show something

We have to hope for the sake of this season and the program in general that a large part of the problem Saturday was first game jitters. Tough road environment for the offense, mobile QB and eye candy for the defense. Maybe, like many have pointed out, all the second guessing had them playing slow which had the appearance of playing uninspired and soft. I hope like everything that coach KD can right the ship and start to earn his keep.

I'd also like to hope that FSU turns out to be really good this year... makes the ACC champ game which makes it that Bama actually played a ranked team. Doesn't excuse the way Bama played with lack of effort, etc, but FSU is not a 2-10 team again this year like they were last year. If their QB stays healthy, I see them winning most of their games. Their only hard games would be Miami and Clemson.

The only way to affect players in this NIL situation is to tie their compensation to performance. I don’t know that our coaches failed the program as much as the players. Start hitting them where they live and they may sit up and take notice. I am not talking about W‘s or L’s but actual performance tied to them doing their jobs on the field.

I don't recall Saban being lauded as the next big thing when he went from MSU to LSU. Granted, I was a middle schooler at the time, but I remember him considered a possible coaching talent due to the MSU win over OSU, and how gritty MSU was as a team.

My point is that looking for that next "coach" is extremely difficult, and possibly impossible. LSU was looking for someone to do better than DiNardo, and they definitely got that in Saban, but I'm not sure they were seeing the new standard of LSU football when they hired him.

These booster comments are discouraging for me, primarily b/c this was NEVER reported under Saban. I'm more annoyed that they're public comments now. If your picture is in some booster HoF, you have enough clout/ego to put your name with the comment. I understand having these comments behind closed doors, but it changes when being made in public.

This is something that is definitely going to have to be considered, or teams are going to waste a lot of money. Because not every "star" recruit you pay big money is going to pan out and you definitely do not keep paying them big money if he's not producing.

Here's what I wonder, and I'll use Ryan Williams as an example. Let's say by the end of this year Ryan Williams has a very subpar year, and his performance is nowhere near what you're paying him. Do you keep ponying up millions to keep him? This example applies to anyone so I'm not just picking on Williams, just using him as an example of what will probably happen to a lot of teams across the country.

Yes, we've gotten the horse before the cart. NIL is supposed to mean you have created "name/image/likeness" for yourself.

No other job gets salaried this way. Pay is always dictated by what you've already done somewhere else!

IMO, that's the only way this can ever get fixed. There needs to be a "maximum wage" a freshman can earn and then recruiting can go back to a more traditional way of working as the coaches sell the program rather than promise $$$ up front!

I'm not ready to give up on CKD yet, but if enough time passes and we need a new HC, D. Ryans would be one at the top of my list.

I don't know if he'd leave the NFL, but he could be one of those "mama called" coaches who might listen.

Orlando Creamer?
Not quite.

During a in a game in LSU, Cory Reamer forced the LSU QB out of bounds. Without missing a beat, Verne says, "Nice tackle by Rolando McClain." I don't remember if McClain was on the field on that play, but he probably was. Still, I was flabbergasted when I heard Verne say that in real time.
