Guys, lay off Blakesmash. He's very knowledgeable on the recruiting front and and is one of our better visiting posters, IMO. In fact, I agree with him in that I wouldn't make a big deal about Rumph's accomplishments at Clemson either, Clemson has grossly underachieved under Tommy Bowden and it's arguably gotten worse under former Bama assistant Dabo Swinney. That being said, I have total confidence in Nick and as has been said coach Rumph will have much better talent to work with here at the capstone. Nick may very well be the best evaluator of coaching talent that's out there, in addition to players. jambama said earlier and I agree, it's an upgrade in recruiting and coaching from what we had.

BamaOnLine.com - Saban moves quickly to hire Rumph as DL coach
University of Alabama coach Nick Saban moved quickly to fill the opening on his coaching staff Tuesday morning, adding Clemson's Chris Rumph as defensive line coach.

Although a formal announcement has yet to be made, the 39-year-old had been at Clemson since 2006 and this past season coached junior defensive end Da'Quan Bowers, the ACC defensive player of the year who won the Nagurski (top defensive player) and Hendricks (top defensive end) awards.

Bowers went into the bowls leading the nation with 15? sacks and his 26 tackles for a loss were the third-most in Clemson history for a defensive lineman in a single season (27 by William Perry in 1984, and Rob Bodine in1991). Rumph was also the position coach for Ricky Sapp and his nephew, Phillip Merling, the No. 32 overall pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2008.

You guys should ask Clemson fans their thoughts on Chris Rumph and what he has done for their line progression.
Easy there killer, your remarks are out of line. CCR is a new Bama coach and we don't necessarily want to hear what some SC or Clemson fans have to say about him, especially if it is negative. CNS has hired him so that is good enough for us. Take you critical remarks about CCR back to a Gamecocks or Tigers board we don't need to hear them here.

Looks like a good hire. Good recruiter, good character, and has gotten good results.

Lay off of BlakeSmash. His team just did its typical choke job and can't even win consistently with 2 of the best coaches of the last 35 years. On a plus side, they did finally break .500 in their history, so congratulations to them on that great accomplishment.

Thanks for the link.....I feel much better now knowing he was part of the staff that created those very good looking Memphis teams a few years ago. ROLL TIDE!!!

A clemson friend of mine just dog cussed me about the hire. i'd say that is a good thing.
i think im much more interested in his possible recruiting connections to memphis rather than south carolina. im still gun shy from everything else involving memphis but hopefully we can pull a couple of good players every yr from that area.
