Even the best coaches have trouble keeping these young men focused, especially after the first championship in a long time (see Bama, 2010).

IOW, this might not be the only loss we see from Clemson this year.

I am happy for Syracuse but I still think Clemson will bounce back and make the playoffs and even make it to the championship game. This may be their turning point (as long as Kelly Bryant stays healthy they will). With us having a tough game v Texas AM and now Clemson losing, I hope our team is ready to mentally focus and dominate the rest of the season.

I still have concerns, though, about our passing game versus good defenses such as LSU and Auburn. Jalen needs to make those mid to long range passes (especially passes of 20 yards or more) like the QB's in this game did last night. Dungey had some good throws. Jalen is 1 for 18 on throws 20 plus yards or more. I realize some of that is the receiver's fault and O line fault, but everyone needs to come together to make that happen. If the offense can't do that, I think Auburn could beat us and we won't get the chance to play UGA or make it to playoffs. Jalen has a chance to practice his long balls the next 2 weeks so I hope Daboll lets that happen.
I've seen Bama lose games before -- but it's usually one of those games where the balls just never bounce the right way, calls never go our way, and we seem to be off only by inches, and yet we still are right there with seconds to go, possibly getting ready to pull it out in the end.

Clemson lost their QB -- but their Defense played pretty bad. And they played like they didn't want to be there. That seems to me that there are some things missing from this team. Leadership, Poise, etc. Not sure what -- but these guys are not one of the Top 5-10 teams in the country. Talent-wise "yes" -- but they are not putting it together.

I said after the VT game that their superior size and strength was the biggest factor and I felt that Bama would have beaten VT significantly more comfortably than Clemson had managed.

Truth be told I'm not surprised they've dropped a game but I'm stunned it was to the Orangemen. :)

In reality, it's like Coach Bryant sometimes used to say, "We just got beat". Syracuse pretty much dominated the game I watched last night. It happens occasionally and, on those kind of nights, there's just nothing much you can do about it.
Did it make a huge difference that Bryant was hurt? Absolutely. But I'm not sure Clemson wins last night even if he's healthy.

Dabos emotion based coaching means Clemson plays up or down to its competition.
Yeah when you ride emotion to a win you also ride it to a loss. Better to ride an even keel and let talent dictate games, not emotion. Ups and downs will kill a program. To hard to keep that emotional high all year. Especially playing teams you should beat. I like our business like approach, concentrate on details and the little things, not emotions. I love emotion in a game but only to a point, emotions can get you to excited and then mistakes happen. Play within yourself, that seems to result in more consistency. Just my opinion, I could be wrong, been told I have been wrong before :eek2:

And Bryant is good, but he's no Watson.

And at this point, there's not telling how long it will before his ankle is healthy, not to mention how long it might be before he's medically cleared to play after that concussion. I've seen guys who weren't knocked out held out for several weeks before.
That doesn’t bode well for them because this is the meat of their schedule now.

Yeah, but they would have to run up on Bama again. This assures them of one more loss. ;)

I projected three Clemson losses before the season. I still think it happens. People don't get the sheer pressure along with the fact Clemson is NOW defending champs. They get everybody's hardest shot. Remember, they had a bunch of close games last year even with Watson. They very easily could have lost to Auburn, NC State, and Louisville last year. Saban once said his most miserable year of coaching was 2004 LSU, because keeping a champ motivated at that age is so difficult.

Loss of players plus added pressure plus best shots from all other teams plus lack of focus/motivation equals losses to less talented teams who have you beat in most of those areas.

Three losses I still think for CU. I'd be convinced for sure if we hadn't destroyed FSU's QB.

The elephant in the room last night was that Syracuse didn't do anything fancy. They lined up and beat them up on the line. There was not much misdirection or anything. They went right at them.

That, and Clemson missed 2 field goals and had a bad fake punt... also I think Clemson got out coached. It just wasn't their night. I hope BAMA doesn't have a game like that and lose. We cannot afford a loss with the way Auburn is playing right now. I would hate for them to ruin our season again.

I'm hoping as long as Saban has things going on in Tuscaloosa, there won't be another team to consistently challenge us. So I'm hoping Selma's prediction is on the money, and Clemson drops a few more.

I'd rather see different teams have their year or two of glory, then fade back into the pack, with Bama consistently riding high.

Don't forget that Clemson returned a fumble for a TD. Their offense was terrible against a team with a terrible defense. Syracuse did not get lucky last night. They were beating Clemson with Bryant in the game, and they beat him with the backup QB in the game.

Syracuse was the better team last night.
