I have no problem with their fans and I respect what Dabo has been able to accomplish this year but I will always think he is dirty because of his association with the 2000 staff here and things related to that which I, like Earle, will not go into here. Even Franchione, as bad as he was, knew he was bad news and did not retain him. I know Saban wanted to hire him, I assume for his recruiting ability, but I for one think things have worked out fine without him. I personally don't want him within 100 miles of Tuscaloosa.

I want to be clear about this. Christian faith should not be used as a recruiting tool; but OTOH the Bible tells us not to be judgemental. Since I don't know his true motivation, I reserve criticism and applaud his testimony.
I agree..you are supposed to profess your faith. So let's not hate on him for that. I think know we are being too judgemental and we are spoiled with Saban. We will not know how to act when Saban retires.

only part I care to address on the football board but I couldn't let this pass

Alabama will always be a magical place, we were for more than a century before Saban came to Tuscaloosa and we will be for Generations after he decides to retire. Saban did not make this place special, he only continued it

That is not my point. My point is that we are use to his demeanor. He isn't a rah rah coach. Our next coach could very well be a coach like Dabo.

I don't really like the rah-rah handclapper coaches but that just could be the anti-Dubose in me.

didn't anyone else here have classes with Dabo at Bama?
Not that I recall. I remember having classes with John Clay and Joey Harville. I had a speech class in Phifer Hall where I saw Chris Donnelly quite a bit; he had class right after me. I shared an elevator in Rose Towers once with Robert Stewart. I met Bobby Humphrey outside Parham Hall. I talked to Jay Barker at the old 15th Street Taco Bell. I remember seeing Mike Dubose jogging on campus quite a bit. I ran into Chad Key in the French Quarter before the '93 Sugar Bowl.

There may have been more, but I don't think I remember everything between '89-'93. :)

ETA:
A friend and I went to the '92 Miss St. game. On the way to the stadium we met Dabo's grandparents and talked with them for a few minutes.

I live in Western NC and we have a lot of Clemson fans up here (especially this year) and I have a brother, sister, many nieces/nephews and countless cousins living in Upstate SC that are HUGE Clemson fans.
I thought once this thing set up the way it did, they would be taking the high road and respecting the old days when Coach Bryant played his good friend Coach Howard; and then the connection between Bama and Dabo. In other words I figured this would be a respectful and classy lead up to the NCG.
Boy was I wrong! I got up today to see all kinds of hateful posts on Facebook about how ESPN had to have Bama in the NCG, how Saban is the "devil", Bama is the "entitled" team of college football...on and on.
One comment that was made a lot was "to God goes the glory". Listen I surely believe in God, and can honestly tell you they think it is his will that they win it all.
My brother also sent me a video of 3/4 of my family among thousands waiting on the #1 team in the nation to return to Clemson. (Not sure if they were serving pizza)

2 points I am making - Clemson fans are going to travel to Arizona in record numbers and you can bet they are going to be rude and obnoxious especially being "the chosen ones"...and second...I don't have to deal with any Awbarn fans up here, and I would hate to think what is like to have relatives that pulled for them to deal with every year!

Funny thing is my dad tried to initiate me in to the Clemson Family in 1967 by taking me to my first college game. Been a Crimson Tide fan ever since I saw Paul Bryant and Ken Stabler do in the Tigers ;)
I thought it was just me that held this opinion.
For quite some time I have thought of Clemson as another Auburn. When the SEC expanded, I was relieved when they didn't join. Maybe it's their Rodney Dangerfield line of 'I don't get any respect' attitude... OR... It could be my thing against ugly Orange... Auburn, Tennessee to name a few.
LASTLY... It could be that their mascot is a Tiger. Again think Auburn, & Mizzou and finally LSU.
(Actually I hate to group LSU with Auburn in any comparison...)

I went to their fan board and wrote a congratulatory post. You would have thought I had written about them being lousy or something. They were absolutely rude. One guy even said the SEC shouldn't be considered as a power conference. I stayed about long enough to leave, and I ain't going back lol...
Think of them like Auburn... A little of that goes a long way.

When I was at Boy State way back when I was rising HS Senior, Larry Langford gave a speech that amounted to nothing more than applause bait about Jesus and the Bible. I thought he seemed crooked because he had such little content or advice for us...it was just an attempt to shroud himself in religion.

Turns out he was a crook and that probably explains why I am wary of people who aren't pastors or priests that talk THAT much about God.
I knew LL in his radio days. He was a 'Snake Oil Salesman'. Dabo is a salesman, just not quite shure what kind yet... ;)

The troubles with all this is the bad people in the world know that the faithful will often take their proclamations at face value. There is a rightful tendency to want to open your arms to those who glorify God...and people who are more nefarious realize this fact.

Is Dabo one of the good guys? I hope so...it is not affirming to get burned over and over again by politicians and businessmen that use God as a misdirection. I want to make it clear that I'm not outright attacking Dabo's faith but there are some warning signs out there being floated by admittedly biased circles (USCe fans, for example). His association with a less than ethical staff here in the 1990s isn't exactly helping my mental image of him.

What we do know is that he gives all the glory to the Lord and hasn't been busted by the NCAA for anything illegal. Maybe I should just learn to put down some of my well-cultivated safeguards brought by less than scrupulous people?

Dabo has no business at all being considered for the successor to Saban.
There's no way in hell I'd support him.
Whoever does it will face that same view from the fan base. Idk if dabo is Alabama head coach worthy, but who really can you say does??? Everyone thinks we will just get the best available coach because we are Alabama, but neither of the coaches after was Bobby Bowden. I think saban's successor is going to be endorsed by Saban to be honest.

But back to the original topic... Clemson has good fans and bad fans, but most free sports forums have little to no filter. Tide fans.com is actually watched like a hawk. I know plenty of our fans forums that would make you cringe. I thank our mods for monitoring the way they do.

True about some of the other Bama boards. I found a Clemson board that so far is pretty level headed. I won't post a link cause I don't know about the language yet but so far so good.

I lived in the Upstate for 15 years. Wonderful people and I don't think I would have left if not for wanting to return to God's Country. (Kind of funny, but I hated this place when my parents moved me here in the 80s, but it IS one of my two real homes and house my Alma Mater). All of my Clemson friends have continued to wonderful. We're all excited to see this game! Even back in 2008, I tailgated with them and only one of them got a little obnoxious over our win and even then I understood, because I would have been a little hurt had we lost that way.

Clemson, just like us has good and bad fans. We all have fans that believe God wants US (and only us) to win. Every team we play, we're going to find that obnoxious group of fans. Heck, I've seen OURS when bringing friends to BDS.

Let's have a good week and be the fans that we (at Tide Fans) normally on and enjoy our opponent. ROLL TIDE!

That must be it. I don't know any good Clemson fans.
