I wish him well. His expected retirement was supposedly one of the reasons ESPN hired Saban, but I just can't picture Saban putting on the mascot heads so that segment is probably over.

It is past time for this.
I do not have any animus towards Corso, but he is barely able too speak, which is a central task for the job. Watching him on air the last couple of years was like watching a tightrope walker with no safety net.

I'm glad he finally pulled the plug. It was long past time for him to go. I get why ESPN let him hang on. You don't want to be the ones who "forced" someone like him out.
I agree with the first part 100%.
The second part, regarding why ESPN would hang on to him, I will push back. Over the last several years ESPN has let much better people go and didn't really care. Why ESPN would keep Corso and let Pollack go, for example, is beyond me.

Maybe if he was expected to do something serious, but he's been essentially a mascot from the start; he's made it fun. If his role was more like Rece's or Kirk's, it'd be different

He’s only doing one game so I wonder if this was forced and they are just letting him have his farewell episode.

I agree he should have hung it up long ago. But some people just hang on too long when they are clearly no longer fully functional. At least his job isn’t that important.

I doubt Saban would do the mascot head thing as that’s just not in his personality. You need someone who is a little crazy to pull it off. I like Saban but he’s not that type. I wish we had someone to play the clown. I guess that’s what McAfee is supposed to be but he’s not my cup of tea.

I can easily see why they kept Corso and let Pollack go. One brought a Saturday morning staple to college football for decades, while the other was just another middling analyst.

It was time, the segment ceased to be funny years ago (he peaked with the "F" bomb), and sadly, he has really looked lost on the stage and just not the guy who so enthusiastically handicapped the 1993 Sugar Bowl. Wrongly, but enthusiastically.

To be blunt about it, I haven't watched Game Day except for the occasional "oh, it's on" in about ten years now. When I started attending all the home games in person in 2016 and 2017, if it's early, you miss Game Day because you're driving to the stadium; if it's late, I missed it a few times because I was flying in from Dallas.

Once upon a time they had some really good segments, but it's like they just about wore all those out. And Pat McAfee was created in a laboratory by a mad scientist whose mistress was supposed to be the brains of the operation but who continually had LSD flashbacks every time a bright light was present.

McAfee will be the head gear guy, it suit's him well
For some reason they have him sitting in the middle of the table, giving him a prominent look on TV. I would have stuck him on the end and had one of the others in the middle. Just a better look for me having someone normal as the anchor.

He hosts the segment where a student tries to kick a field goal for a big cash prize. I like that bit as his shtick as his version of the mascot head.

The head thing should be retired with Corso. It was his thing and someone copying it would just be tacky. If someone else can come up with another way to jazz up the prediction segment that would be fun.

Definitely retire the head gear with Corso. I know Kirk will be glad to not have to worry about Coach Corso on set. You could really tell that he always was looking out for him. They should let the focus turn to the GOAT. He is set gold on TV. Wins at whatever he aims to do.

Yeah I agree and that seems to be the temperature of how most fans are feeling.

Retire the Headgear gimmick as that’s Corso’s signature thing.

I’m sure they can come up with something similar but different for McAfee to instead.

If they want it to not be as ‘fun’ and maybe more serious have CNS make the final selection.
