Coach DeBoer on why Ryan Williams wasn't thrown to in Iron Bowl

I couldn't make heads or tails out of what DeBoer said about Williams not being targeted. Maybe I can't understand plain English.
Basically, I think he's saying it was not intentional OR (as some thought) a result of him being disciplined.

The passing game sometimes targets a specific player to get him touches (he mentioned a screen play) but often the play is dictated by the defense and/or the QB's progression to who's open.

What it might mean is that RW isn't getting the separation that Ty feels comfortable throwing to!

Behind a paywall. Care to summarize?
Really ambiguous ... "We don't call plays for specific players often; that's not how the system works, but for whatever reason we didn't get him the ball ... we could be more intentional at times, but because he didn't get the ball it opened up more for other guys like Horton" ... it didn't read like he was blaming either RW or TS directly

That would be a result of running sloppy routes... 🤔

They want to use Ryan for the long passes. And there just wasn't many, if any, long balls. The pass rush and blitzing kinda stopped those. They find a way for better pass protection, and we'll see Ryan catch a few.
If he's in the slot, then he needs to be crossing over towards the outside and downfield.😎

1. He has been dealing with a hamstring injury for awhile
2. He plays better outside, not in the slot. Ty has not been great with the deep ball and barely has time to throw deep since he is getting blitzed a lot.
3. I hope Grubb has been saving some plays for Ryan to catch UGA off guard a little bit since he hasn't really done a lot the past month or so.

Sorry about that brother, it allowed me too read it thev1st time, then it doesn't after that..

Coach Deboer said injuries forced them, too move Ryan, to a spot that isn't his natural position pretty much coach talk, buttttt, the way I see it in the NIL Pay for play world of college football we're living in now days..

I dont care if it's his natural position or not, we're paying him big $$$$ now, if you don't produce ride the bench & take a pay cut until you start producing on the football field again..

I hate too be cynical like that towards one of our players, NIL has completely changed everything, including a more if you dont produce hit the bench or hot the road attitude from fans & rightfully so..

I think that's a problem too. In HS and early last year, he relied on his physical skills, but now that people know his strengths and weaknesses, it's caught up with him.

I've watched him and he's not sharp with his route running/cuts, and in addition, he's not always hustling.

Makes me wonder, based on CKD's comments, if he had the tendency to loaf when he doesn't think the play is coming his way, knowing his route is down the progression line?

But, Bama receivers often feast against Kirby's defense so maybe this is the game he "gets right!"

Alot of it is that Ryan was infinitely the best player in 6A and no one really could stop him. Had he played at a place like Baker or someone in 7A he probably wouldn’t be as highly sought after as he was. He still would be a 5 star but the insanity in his recruitment would probably be more on the normal side.

Saraland is probably the only legitimate power in the south but they are constantly exposed by Birmingham city schools when they are forced to play them. Think more like how Oregon used to be when they had to play the SEC or elite B1G teams. My point is that aside from one Theodore team he really never faced a physical defense while playing the South. KJ Lacy and Ryan Williams were a force to be reckoned with but that was basically a match made in heaven.

But as far as Ryan Williams being egotistical and selfish…. unless something has changed in the last two years (possible but i just don’t buy it) then i would say that is a wrong opinion. I could tell you alot of instances that disprove that

Who cares at this point?! I personally think he’s a problem! He’s got Deion (Colorado) written all over him.

More concerned with clicks and likes than working hard and winning. I for one would send him and his emotional support teddy bear packing!

1) He is nowhere like Deion. Not even in the same stratosphere. I think too many people here are trying to make everything what kids do these days as comparable to the 80’s Miami and 90’s FSU thugs. It really isn’t a fair comparison at all.

2) If Ryan Williams is a problem then he is a good problem to have. We are 10-2 even with his down tick in performance. And he is still drawing massive attention by defenses due to his presence.

3) I’ve been more around the kid and I’m not just a couch commentator so I can tell you that the kid is not an egotistical maniac. He always has had a social media presence but he has always also been a team first guy in the locker room and on the field.

Are you blaming Ryan because he didn't get throws? I'm sure he'd like to have got some balls come his way. But it didn't happen because of the changes you mentioned, due to injuries.
