Coaching carousel 2025-26

I get everyone's frustrations and all, but at this point, everyone is telling CKD what he should do..... it's not always a good look when we as a fan need to execise our patience and let him figure it out. He's a smart man. He obviously see the same issues we all are seeing. We just have to wait and see how he make the adjustments in the off season.
It's pretty ridiculous how so many fans seem to believe they know how to do the job of a CFB HC better than the guy who actually has the job (and the experience). If it were as easy as many believe, everyone would be making $10m/year doing it.

DeBoer has forgotten more about coaching CFB than literally every poster here has ever known...

Few jobs are as easy as they appear from the outside.

It should also be noted there are additional challenges nowadays that did not even remotely exist in the coaching tenures of Bryant, Stallings, and Saban. Coach Bryant did not have to worry about getting up tomorrow morning and seeing his entire offensive team enter a transfer portal (just for starters).

That's why I think a lot of the flip dismissal of Bill Curry too often misses the point. "Oh, he was a terrible coach, he couldn't beat Auburn, he had a lousy record blah blah blah."

Except:
a) Bill Curry laid the foundation for the 1990 national championship at Georgia Tech
b) Bill Curry recruited 1/2 - maybe more - of the team that won the 1992 national championship

I'm not arguing that Bill Curry was some next-level superstar head football coach. He wasn't. But at the same time, he obviously was a pretty good recruiter given what he put in place at Alabama that Gene Stallings took to the next level. Yes, he was arrogant, self-righteous, a stuffed shirt, and a bit of a whiner for a guy who had played for both Vince Lombardi and Don Shula.

But guess what?

If Bill Curry had won national championships in 1989 and 1992 and 1994 at Alabama, those same qualities everyone uses to attack him with today would be defended as "oh, he's just focused on the task at hand, he's not a glad hander."

If you win, you can get away with anything - and the fans will even defend you.
If you lose, the same things people find charming on winners are part of the problem preventing you from winning.

[Anxiety about the lack of Assistant Coaches changes....]

I don't recall which TideFans member posted it, but I was persuaded this is a sort of "chicken or the egg" issue.

The immediate concerns for the coaches are, (a) securing the players they want to keep, (b) snatching-up players who can fill obvious lineup holes ... and building-up the bench strength.

From what we're seeing, I suspect this is the direction DeBoer is giving his coaches and the GM.

(c) is overhauling the coaching staff.

Attacking this in the reverse seems to be the desire of several TideFans members, but by the time the coaching staff can be overhauled, too many players will have been poached by other teams, and the new coaches will be attempting to dig out of an even deeper hole.

Remember, Alabama may not hold the same level of mystique it had before NIL and the portal completely upset the apple cart ... but Alabama iS still one of the top eight teams, simply based on CFP results.

I'm eager to see what fixes Coach DeBoer implements.

I was checking on the Scott Huff (former OL coach under CKD at Washington; Joe Moore award winner). He's with the Rams, but he was hired by them in February 2025. So, if the staff is focusing on the players first, and assistants later, the timing could workout given the Rams are in the playoffs.

I am thinking about 5 job openings in the NFL this year.
I couldn’t believe last night on the Sunday night game between the Steelers and Ravens that there is some speculation that the Ravens might be considering moving on from John Harbaugh. Certainly the Ravens have had some issues getting over the hump in terms of getting to and winning the Super Bowl. But the guy consistently wins. I don’t get it.,

One of the announcers last night said if the Ravens had a pass rush they would already be in the playoffs. Last night the Ravens couldn't get to Rodgers, especially in crunch time. Even with that the Ravens had a shot to win, but they missed a 44 yard FG at the buzzer. If the Ravens make the kick, they are in the playoffs over the Steelers. I hate leaving it up to a kicker.

A rookie kicker at that. A rookie kicker because your previous veteran kicker did some stuff that cannot be talked about on a family board.

It's the goal of the sport right?

A lot of people here really grew to dislike Dabo, like a lot. Me? I didn't care much, if he won he deserved respect. When he's losing though? Yeah, what a moron.

That's the difference. He's refusing to use the portal now, he's losing, he's an idiot. He was a darn good coach when he was winning. I see some people here trying to make comments about Cignetti. Dude is winning, I don't care if he's a jerk, he just kicked Alabama's butt with far less resources. I know who did a better job coaching, and it sure wasn't the other guy, it was Cignetti. These coaches are paid to produce results.

So yeah, you win you deserve respect. You lose? Then we can talk about all those things we don't like about them... If DeBoer stops getting his butt kicked you better believe my complaints stop that instant because I just want success. I don't dislike him personally, I dislike the results. You'll note how rarely I said anything remotely negative about Saban, while some people here complained about what he said about fans, or complained about this or that, even openly said they were tired of certain things about him, constantly second guessed his choices, etc... Look, he was winning, I wasn't going to complain about him specifically as long as he stayed within reasonable ethical boundaries.

But, to reiterate, their job is to win. It's not to make me feel good about myself, it's not to get me like them, it's not to it's not to make me admire them, or want to be friends with them, or agree with all their choices, it's to win games. They do their job, or else someone else can do their job. I can't be a head coach, but there are other people out there that can do the job for 10 million a year and ultimately my money does go to help pay that, giving me at least the right to an opinion.

Edit: Not really trying to argue with you, just making a general point.

Dabo has been average at best since Venables left...

The NFL has always recycled coaches...
I know, but the odds are slim that any failed coach will be successful elsewhere. Yet they do it over and over.

Keep in mind that the failcons interviewed the current Bears coach, the current Patriots coach, Harbaugh (he was never coming), and Belichick (did not want him personally) before hiring Morris.
