Dabo has been average at best since Venables left...
That's a really good point, and gets to my way of viewing a coach and their success. I'm not calling for DeBoer to be fired, but I am saying look this lack of a running game (which I've talked about for over a year) is a serious issue and only staff changes can address it.

If DeBoer goes out and makes those changes, develops a legit running game, and then has a lot of success next year I will not say "oh it's just because he hired so and so". No, I will give him credit because he made the right hires.

Success to me is the measuring stick of a coach. Dabo hired Venables and kept him around long enough to win two titles. Good on both of them. Clemson had 1 title before that, now they have 3. If I'm a Clemson fan Dabo has my eternal gratitude for doing that.

But! You can't coast on previous performances forever, anymore than DeBoer's very impressive 14-1 Washington team (with Penix if we're pointing out who had help) can carry him forever.

So yeah, credit where credit is due. Credit for Dabo winning with Venables, credit to DeBoer winning with Penix, but their job is to win now as well. And for the record I hope Dabo keeps losing and DeBoer finds a way to elevate the program. Some people have reason to believe staff changes are coming so I do remain hopeful (and will keep checking this thread, heh).

I know, but the odds are slim that any failed coach will be successful elsewhere. Yet they do it over and over.

Keep in mind that the failcons interviewed the current Bears coach, the current Patriots coach, Harbaugh (he was never coming), and Belichick (did not want him personally) before hiring Morris.
I disagree!

Front office could seriously handicap a very good coach...

It's more a question of fit. I have no doubt that there are several examples of coaches being successful in subsequent jobs because of fit/culture.

For instance, Saban wasn't allowed to get the qb that he really wanted when he coached the Dolphins, which I believe contributed to his decision to return to CFB.

I have no doubt there are countless other examples of coaches "fitting" the system.

Wasnt sure which thread to put this thought...but I think we need to hire coaches that will play a scheme that translates to the NFL style of play...why? so that players know that if they show well in the scheme, then they will get NFL scouts' attention. I think the reason we see OL and DL starters leaving is that their value isn't growing in this regard...Womack plays a weird DL scheme, which isn't similar to the pros...and the OL issues are well known..our starters want to go to the next level..so if their coach isn't helping them showcase that ability, they are now moving on....it is where we are in the game

This is interesting. Josh Niblett (former Bama player) is stepping down from his head coaching position at Gainesville High School (GA) to join Dion Sanders staff at Colorado. Josh coached at several high schools in the Birmingham area, a significant number of years at Hoover High after replacing Rush Propst. He left a few years ago to take the Gainesville job.

He coached my alma mater, Oneonta. I think he won a championship there.

I thought the reason he left Hoover to take a job in Georgia was that he had 25 years in The Teacher’s Retirement System of Alabama? Many long term teachers/coaches move to another state after 20-25 years. My high school coach put in 25 years in Alabama. Then coached another 15 years at a school in the Florida panhandle.

Coached a season with Niblett at Hoover, he is awesome and I always hoped Bama would make a call to him. Also coached a year with Sam Shade and always hoped he end up at Bama as well.

Yeah Josh is a good dude. My kids went to Hoover. One while Propst was there and the other while Josh was head coach.
