The biggest mistake most people make is equating a southern accent with being uneducated/unintelligent (and many uneducated people are actually intelligent).
My first job out of college was with a large computer company. I was based in Rochester, NY.

A Tech hung-up after speaking with an Atlanta-based counterpart and declared [HEAVY Brooklyn accent] "I hate tawkin' wid doz people in the South. Dey sound so damn ignowint!"

I actually fell down on the floor laughing at her.

"Whaz so funny to you!"

I repeated her criticism, in my best imitation of her Brooklyn accent.

"I don tawk like at!"

Fortunately her two office mates told her I'd pretty much nailed her accent.

She didn't speak to me for about two weeks....

😁
I spread joy!

Wouldn't you love to hear the discussion in the Atlanta office after that call?😂

I had a similar conversation with someone from Boston or as they pronounced it Bahstun. The guy loved to talk about how "wicked smaht" he was. I once asked him if he could hear himself when he talked.

No. I worked for IBM *during* college. (But I had a beard, which seriously ticked-off that Regional Manager. In a big-time rant he informed me he'd never allow me to be hired post-college.)

I worked for Control Data Corporation (CDC). In my Year Two I was moved into selling to Power Companies. I showed-up at a site where a nuclear facility was being constructed ... in my 3-piece suit and wingtips. The VP of Nuclear Engineering took one look at me and asked, "First time at a job site, huh?"

Those shoes were never the same after that sales call.

My wife has a friend from eastern Kentucky, "back in the holler." She sounds just like Dolly Parton when she speaks. It is a sweet accent, and very southern.
My wife went looking for a car and took her along. A car salesman from the mid-west showed them their inventory. The two ladies asked questions and spoke about the car. Then left. My wife went back a day later and spoke with the same salesman.
He asked if my wife's friend "with the speech impediment" would be joining them, as if a southern accent was a speech impediment.

He did not make the sale.

That would've royally ticked me off.

Don't know where to put this, but it's cool.

At the Meat Counter in the grocery store last week, a gentleman who looked to be in his late 80s saw my Bama t-shirt and casually mentioned he "played on that football team." He was about 5'6" and told me his playing weight was 250(!).

"Coach Bryant was always up in that tower. He'd yell something at us ... and the Assistant Coaches or Position Coaches would translate, because none of us could ever understand him!"

He worked in Huntsville after graduating and was part of Wernher von Braun's team. He strongly stated our space program would never have reached the heights it did, if not for von Braun. (He was more animated speaking about the Saturn V rocket engines than when speaking about playing on the football team.)

A very enjoyable conversation, which wouldn't have come about if not for my Bama swag.

Oh. His name? Rick Poff.

Is there a limit for on-the-field coaches for 2025?
It seems like new rules don’t distinguish anymore between “analyst” and “on-field” and there is no more 10 coaches limit.

Living in Raleigh with a daughter at UNC and son who does media work for the team, I watched quite a few UNC games. Their secondary was beyond awful. There has to be something somebody is seeing because it ain't the product on the field.

LIved in Huntsville close to a decade and met many of those men who were a part of building those rockets. They were all humble, down to earth guys who probably didn't understand what they were really doing until much later.

But the best story is a guy who interned and was basically running errands around the arsenal. There was a three ring binder type notebook he was given to take to some of the higher ups. He wondered what was in it and later found out it was some of the initial plans for the space shuttle.

Looks like he's just an assistant DBs coach, and probably would be called an analyst in years past. There's no longer a limit on the number of on field coaches, so it can't hurt to bring in a guy with a ton of experience, and even SEC DC experience to basically be an analyst. He's also a Bama guy, and Wommack has worked with him before.

Not an exciting hire if it happens. Especially if no offensive changes. But CKD is under the microscope fair or not after this past season. Maybe DBs isn’t his best coaching position but a good X&O guy.
If it happens, could be for another position other than secondary...
