We are more upset that the son of a millionaire coach qualifies as a "hardship" in the NCAA eyes, rahter than Peek himself not qualifying.Give it up please, it is the rule.
Hear, hear!We are more upset that the son of a millionaire coach qualifies as a "hardship" in the NCAA eyes, rahter than Peek himself not qualifying.
Just another arbitrary ruling by the NCAA based on personal affinity rather than jurisprudence.
I don't see how it's any different from the Mallett situation. Once his waiver was denied I felt sure Peek's would be, as well.
Had he transferred anywhere but Alabama, he'd be playing this fall.We are more upset that the son of a millionaire coach qualifies as a "hardship" in the NCAA eyes, rahter than Peek himself not qualifying.

Isn't it funny though, that football scholarships, like any other athletic scholarship are renewed annually. Its kind of hard to put the blame on a 20 yr old kid who's coach up and left him after he probably promised his family he'd be there 20 yrs.I can see both sides. From Peek's side, it hardly seems fair, since his chance at a post-college career has been greatly diminished, if not eliminated. OTOH, the consistent position (one or their few areas of consistency) of the NCAA has been that a student-athlete signs with a school, not a coach. Once that rule is breached, it's a slippery slope. How much of a change is a hardship? It's a tough one...
That's a possibility I hope he DOESN'T pursue. After seeing him in the spring game, he may be the best TE (slash H-Back?) we have. Besides, it was a given that once he signed with Bama, he wasn't going to play this year.A lot of Division II players make it into the NFL. Were I Colin and family looking at maybe/maybe not starting after a sit out year as opposed to two years of almost certain starting, I think I'd be looking seriously at the 2nd possibility.
Not trying to incite anything but Peek's coach was fired, Mallet's retired. Unfortunately neither fit into the new offensive schemes of Rodriguez or Johnson, although you could make a case that a TE on CPJ could catch a few passes and hone his blocking skills which are needed in the NFL. As for Mallett he was a big, slow footed, strong armed QB who in no way resembled the type QB for CRR's offense.Isn't it funny though, that football scholarships, like any other athletic scholarship are renewed annually.
