It is unusual to commit that penalty once, much less twice in the same game.
If you are under pressure, bailing on the pass play and running is fine (especially if you can pick up a first down). Scrambling to keep the pass play alive and then, if nobody gets open, dumping the ball out of bounds is fine. The only wrong decision is to second guess yourself, "Run! No, wait, pass! No wait, run. No, wait, pass!"
