Speculation is ...speculation. Until Sanders does it at Colorado he hasn't proved anything. Jackson State was a different situation. If he goes 12-2 next year is a big if.

I suspect Prime will be a coach that can amass a TON of talented players but won't be able to get them to play like a team. He will likely recruit VERY well (confident, charismatic black man who will resonate with black kids) and probably scrape the portal for every 4 or 5 star who wants to start as a freshman. Odds are he will never have better than an 8 win season with all the talent he can get. He's not a coach IMO. He's a salesman.

I did not see the play and cannot find a replay. That said, Shedeur Sanders has been hammered this season and played through several injuries. I do not accept the statement that he abandoned his teammates.

Say whatever you want about Deion. He wants to be polarizing, and the hate is a part of that. But the son is not the father.
I agree! Shedeur is a good kid and He is very loyal to the teammates, so it's not fair to signal him out like that. Colorado OL has been real bad this season.

Shedeur Sanders left Colorado’s game against Washington State due to an apparent Injury🤕 - YouTube

I think the jury is out on all coaches as it comes to who is going to figure out how to manage a roster that is part professional paid athlete and part armature players getting an education. There is the issue also of kids having six figure salaries, or more. Most pro athletes in their 30's don't know how to handle money and these are kids. right out of high school. Plus the fact that there is no barrier to movement now. None, like even pro players can't just up and change teams at will. Mix all this together and you better get used to instability. The one thing I do know is who ever figures this out is not going to do it be being a good interview to the press. This is about relationships and respect. It's hard to have that with a bunch of guys who showed up 3 months ago.

I will admit I have not seen much of CU and Sanders this year. Being a great athlete however does not transfer into being a great, or even good coach. From what I have seen of CU this season is a team in transition that is undisciplined and poorly prepared, that falls on the HC and his staff. As others have said “the jury is still out” on Sandets and next year should give a better picture of Sanders and his football program.

Well, one also needs to remember where Colorado was last year. In 2022, that team was 1-11 with its only win coming in overtime. Its losses were almost all 25-40 point blowouts. In 2023, they have won 4 games as opposed to one, and they also have been competitive.. 1 loss in OT, and 3 others by a TD or less. Given that Colorado quite possibly was the worst team in college football last year, one could say they have made progress this year. The question will be if they can move that progress to a bowl game next year and then compete in their conference after that.

I'm sorry this is gonna sound so pedantic but just to clarify - you are aksing which BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER became a GREAT COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACH - am I correct?
I read this as "among all of the great coaches, which was the best football player?"

NOT

"Who is the best coach that played football?"

If there was one better than Heisman winner and multiple national championship winner Steve Spurrier, I don't know who that would be.

Any other Heisman caliber players to also become great coaches?
