I see TONS of 2012 Mock Drafts showing Dre, Trent, and Lester coming out early. I've even seen some drafts showing Fluker and Nico as 2nd round picks. But, I haven't seen Barrett Jones on any Mock lists -- has BJ declared he's coming back? Or is there some reason he's not Draft Eligible?

To me if Fluker is slotted to go in the first 3 rounds -- Barrett should be too.....

Anyone know?

I know Coach would hate this post -- but I'm hoping someone can explain it to me

All of us should be thankful for the new regulations on the Rookie Pay Scale. CNS will be able to talk alot of guys who will be 2nd rounders this season into coming back next year to become a 1st round pick due to the differential in contracts.

To answer your question, I have read somewhere that BJ is coming back for his senior season.

Aside from the seniors (Barron, Upshaw, Maze, Hanks, Vlachos, etc.) the only underclassmen who have or will have first round grades are Hightower (who's kinda technically a senior), Richardson, Kirkpatrick, and a strong MAYBE on Lester (who's also a senior or higher in the classroom), and Barrett Jones. These NFL types are really fickle. Most of the time having the ability to play multiple positions well helps your cause but depending on how the wind blows sometimes that can hurt you because they'll say you do a lot of good things but not one great thing. *shrug*. I talked to one Internet mock draft guy / ex-scout who actually graded Lester higher than Barron. I was baffled how he could come to such a conclusion. He said he liked Barron a ton, but the fact that he took bad angles in pursuit could hurt him. That's actually always been the only knock on Barron. But as I said, this was before the start of the season. Lester's production in terms of INTs has dropped off slightly compared to last season (WE know he's playing through back spasms but the film watchers don't care) and the long balls that most every team tries on us mostly always happens when the corner is expecting help from Lester over the top. In the Florida game, for example (IIRC), on the replay, they highlighted Lester's eyes getting caught in the backfield at the beginning of the play. But anyway...

There's one other guy that I know for certain is gonna try to go but personally I don't think he should. However, he has a very legitimate reason for it. But for the sake of confidentiality I won't divulge the guy's info. Sorry

Since we're fans and not the media, players, or CNS... I see Trent, Dre, and Hightower going (and all probably as first round picks). Barrett may be a first round pick, but I won't be shocked if he stays or goes. I think Lester should come back (unless he finishes the season with a flurry of big plays). Right now, the main DBs that are making plays are Barron and Dre, so they are getting all the love. Lester would be the man in our secondary next year and likely receive a lot of press (increasing draft stock). Any player other than the ones mentioned, I would be completely shocked if they went in the draft.

WMack is such a tease with the info... I remember last year, people said Maze was thinking of going, but came back (which imho was the right decision for him), so whoever it is I think should be in the same boat. Everyone has their reasons for doing stuff, but if any player could be a legit first rounder in a year, I think the decision to go pro too quickly is very short-sighted (that's where I think Lester fits too; another year of development plus being the leader back there would enhance his stock in the following draft).

I agree on Lester. Doubt seriously that he comes back though. He'll have a 1st round grade. Whether he goes in the 1st round is a different story. Every year after Coach Saban's first year, we've had continuity at safety. Started with Rashad & Marcus Carter, then Rashad & Woodall, then Woodall & Barron, Then Barron & Lester, now that same duo again. I think Lester staying for another year would help HaHa Clinton-Dix's development immensely. But asking him to stay if the money is there would be kind of selfish on our parts. Particularly since he's already dealing with back spasms and once those things start, there's really no telling how things will go. Gotta strike while the iron is hot

Yep; my whole thing with Lester in particular is that the iron would likely be more hot after a year of being "the man." I don't fault any player that goes pro early, especially if they are considered 1st round picks. I just meant that in his case, I think he could work himself into the top half of the first round next year so going pro now gets him money, but there is a bigger check out there for him imho. He and Jones are the two that are an enigma for this draft. There are some guys that clearly should go and some guys that clearly shouldn't, but Jones and Lester are probably looking at the back end of the first round at best (which is still very good). Their decision is a lot tougher because it's not as clear cut. So many people get rated as first round and teams start drafting more to need in later rounds that guys just start falling through no fault of their own. I'd hate to see a guy go pro and fall when they (Jones and Lester in this case) could probably increase their stock a good bit the following year. I love seeing Bama players drafted in the early rounds and the more drafted means more success in recruiting, it's just a tough call which way to go at this point for those two. It's really still too early for them to decide what they'll be doing. The rest of the season and workouts/evaluations should play a big role in their decisions.

Exactly. Second round is a huge pay reduction now. More kids will stick around for their senior season, not just at Bama but everywhere.

I don't have any answers to the question about Barrett & DJ, but BJ told Andy Staples in preseason he took snaps at center and that he guessed he was also the "backup center" if needed (which, we all know he can play all 5 slots anyway).

Can you imagine if both of them stay, then we roll BJ to center and have CK at LT. Could '12 OL then be better than '11?

I doubt Lester goes round 1. he'll be a 2nd rounder. Jones will be a late 1st or early 2nd rounder. that mock must have been a mistake with Jones not being on it. I tell you a guy that i think is going to give thought in going and that is Chance Warmack.dont know if thats the guy Mack was speaking of but scouts are taking notice big time.

Was not him...I'd be beyond shocked if he left
