Why are we recruiting fewer in state high school players? :conf2:

According to Rivals.com data here is the percentage of in state players the Tide signed from 2008 - 2011. The 2011 totals are to date. Why would we be signing fewing in state players, doesn't this hurt us in the long run with Alabama high school players and their coaches?

Year (% of in state players)
2008 (53%)
2009 (37%)
2010 (31%)
2011 (32%)

thats because Saban has taken our recruiting to a new level. We now have the ability to recruit most of the country

Poster is correct. Saban has taken recruiting to a whole new level. The percentage will very year to year depending on the level of talent locally. Concentrate on the top 10 and go elsewhere for the rest. Sounds like a plan.

I think your concern is well-founded. I think with the loss today that the barn makes up some major ground on us in the recruiting wars, especially in-state. Beating Saban at home and snapping a 20 game win streak is a huge selling point and feather in his cap for Chizik. Don't think he won't use that to close deals on the recruiting trail. That being said,...I think Saban was forward-thinking enough to see this might happen thus he has nationalized recruiting, to a level not seen since the Bryant years and maybe even more so than that.
In summary, I'm not worried at all about our overall recruiting, but I DO think the outcome of today's game changes the landscape here in-state. The barn will now get players they would not otherwise have gotten...

I think with in state talent, its a lot of the following:

1. Which team did they grow up liking the best?
2. Which team is currently the "top" team?
3. Which team can they play and contribute the most to?

I agree with earlier posted comment, "CNS has taken recruiting to new level....". So, with his system and desired talent requirements per position, I can see the in state numbers high with some recruiting classes and low in others. Today my concern was receivers and offensive lineman. But ultimately for those on the bubble (could go to either us or the Barn), I feel the reputation and respect CNS has demonstrated goes much further than a one point game that 1. everyone said the Barn would dominate and 2. we let one slip away.....

However, I do not have an idea about the benefits packages. We encourage academic success with our program. The other team I am told gives, well........ see other threads on the board:biggrin2:

They may get the best of the uncommitted recruits, in state, for the 2011 recruiting class but next year albarn will be back to normal. They lose their entire OL (who played together 4 years and was the strength of this years team, along with their mercenary QB) and their tough games (except Bama) will be on the road.
Chizik is not as good a HC as this season makes him look.....they will be back in the middle of the pack (or lower) next year with a completely new OL and QB. That will throw some cold water on their recruiting for 2012.

I would LIKE to believe all that, but the barn was predicted by the same people to be middle of the pack THIS season. What has changed?

People had no idea Newton was going to play as well as he has. That's pretty much it IMHO. Lets see how good the barn looks without sCam and very likely without Malzahn, I'm guessing they'll look a lot more like last year's team rather than this year's. JMO.

I think that the presence of Coach Gus Malzahn is one of the keys. Many offensive players will be attracted to Auburn just so they can play, and accumulate impressive statistics, in his high-powered offensive scheme.

That o-line had played very poorly up to this season. No one figured Fairley would finally get a clue. As for Cam, just look what losing Tebow in a simillar system did to Fla.

two words...Texas and Florida. two teams that for 4 years built their offense and TEAM around oe player, Colt Mccoy for Texas and Saint Tebow for the mighty gayturds. after that one player left, what happened. the little slogan that Auburn liked to use this year was "all in" as in all in on $cam. they knew this was the one shot they had. who is the backup QB at Auburn....??

not trying to defend Auburn but they ran this offense last season. they didnt build it around Cam, he just made it better. as long as Malzahn is there they will run this offense no matter who is at QB

I believe Gus Malzahn will be getting himself a head coaching job this offseason, and even if he doesn't Auburn doesn't have a QB on their roster or the playmakers at WR to make Gus' offense work nearly as good as it has this year. In other words, AU will struggle to 6-7 win next years, if that.

As for the in-state recruiting, as long as Nick Saban has a plan and won't deviate from it, then I am not concern about the recruiting.

Malzahn isn't going to be at the barn much longer, in fact this is likely his last year there IMO.

They better get what they can this year because I agree with you. This is there one year when everything has fallen in place.

They lose their OL and QB, and depending on what job opens up ( Miami ) they lose there OC.

Everything just kinda fell into place for Gus and Chizik this year...... Cam was just icing on the cake.
(1) We know all the misdeeds it took in order for Cam to end up at auburn this year......he would never have been there otherwise.
(2) They had a lot of seniors on the team (4 OL) that had been playing together for years.
(3) The schedule was perfect for a championship run, with all the tough games (except Bama) being at home. They had 2 weeks to prepare for the one tough away game.

Yeah, they will run this offense no matter who is at QB, like they did last year, but our coaches know how to defend it. Our players just have to learn that it is a 60 minute game and the other team isn't gonna let up just because they are behind.
Gus will likely be gone next year but they will be pachyderm fodder regardless.
