Given the state of these two programs, I imagine we'll be seeing each other again in the NCG. Congrats. When the game got tight at the end, your defense came through. No excuses. I can't say that we lost because of QB play. Gilbert was pretty spectacular given the circumstances. To step into THAT game against THAT defense, fight through adversity and have the team in position to have the ball down by 3 with 3 minutes to go, wow. That bodes well for the future.

I sure am proud of how our team responded to adversity. I've never felt better about my team in defeat.

No shame is losing to a great Bama team. My only criticism is the decision to not take a knee late and McElroy throwing the horns down. I don't understand that.

Anyway, I don't want to end on a negative note. I love college football and last night reminded me why. Bama has some great fans. Congrats.

I think the young man did an outstanding job considering he probably never thought for a minute he would have to play practically the entire game....or even at all! Yeah, he turned the ball over a couple of times. There aren't many freshmen that wouldn't going up against our defense.

I think he's going to be a good one.

Hea Longhorn, thanks so much for your commments / very classy of you.

I am a true 'Bama fan first, but my second favorite team is Texas. I follow both teams very closely. By the looks of last night, your QB position is set for a couple of years. That kid looked very good - give him a full spring practice as the starter, and a little experience, and he will be impressive.

Hopefully, we'll see each other again next year in the BCS National Championship Game.

Thanks very much, my family is good friends with Mac McWhorter, your offensive line coach. My mother taught his son. Classy guy. Good luck in the future.

Longhorn93 Thanks for your comments. I did wander about that myself. Coach did have McElroy take the knee in the Florida game but that game was totally in Bama's hands. In this one Texas could have scored quickly and then had an onside kick and anything can happen. I just didn't want to miss that last extra point to make it 38 to 21 and Texas would have needed 3 scores. On the football field sometimes _ _ _ _ happens and Coach probably wanted to make sure it didn't happen last night, esp after Texas came back to make the score 24 to 21.

Thanks. You should be proud of your team, they did not quit and fought back when faced with a lot of adversity. Going in I thought Texas was a good team, but your defense surprised me a bit, being even better than I thought.

With UT having time outs remaining, a 10 point lead and about 1:40 left, you can't really take a knee. We ran the ball right up the middle with a freshman RB. I would have thought the #1 Rushing Defense could have prevented a score.

McElroy played HS football in Texas and was not recruited by any of the big Texas schools, so he was probably enjoying some personal revenge. I didn't see any UF fans crying after the SEC CG when McElroy or Ingram did the Gator Chomp.

I saw GMAC throwing the horns down and I had wondered earlier in the day if he would do that. I wonder if it's a rite of passage of some sort for boys growing up in Texas that ever get the opportunity to play against and beat a Texas team.

Gilbert stepped up BIG time against what we consider to be one of the best Bama defenses of all time. So I can't imagine any Bama fan not having a ton of respect for him. I don't think this is the last time we'll face him. At least I hope not. If we're facing Texas it means good things are happening.

Not taking a knee may have been because of the amount of time still left on the clock and the fact that Gilbert and Shipley had burned us quick and deep and we were only up by 10. I personally didn't see it as running up the score. As goofy a game as it was, anything still could have happened. It never hurts to have insurance.

In one of the articles he said he thought he would get to play in the 4th quarter in mop-up duty! Sounds like some of the UT players were as arrogant as some of their fans.

I thought Bama should take a knee when I was watching the game. After thinking about it, there was just a little too much time remaining to run out the clock since Texas had one timeout remaining. Bama did run straight up the middle though.

We had one timeout remaining. Y'all could have ended the game with a couple of knees. I really doubt the defense was playing full out or even really expecting a play. I disagree with the call only because it wasn't necessary. If you need a first down to end the game, so be it, run your offense. If the game can be ended with a knee, I think you do it. Just my opinion, but it is relatively meaningless. Bama played great and won the game. Congrats.

I used to be a Longhorn fan especially when Franchione was at A & M. I wanted Texas to beat them worse than Oklahoma did: 77 to zip.

Since my son is an Aggie grad, I now pull for Texas A & M. Note, I said pull for.

However, my BLOOD is CRIMSON and has been since the day I was born. It is not maroon. There is NOTHING on this earth that compares to Alabama Crimson Tide football.

If the Aggies ever play Bama again, I would want Bama to beat them worse than Oklahoma did. My love for Alabama is thicker than my son's wrong choice to go to A & M instead of Bama. You know, Texas A & M isn't a bad school, but it "ain't" Alabama.

Thanks. The Horns did not fold their hand at halftime.
Y'all are in good hands with Gilbert.
McCoy is a class act as well.

If you think I'm crying, ok. Just an observation. I don't begrudge rivals having a little back and forth like Bama and Florida. I expect OU to do the horns down thing, for instance. It's part of the rivalry. I just thought it was an odd thing for McElroy to do under those particular circumstances. Texas showed a lot of grit to be in the game late. A more respectful reaction would have been nice, but it's not that big of a deal.

I see your point but I respectfully disagree. The only way I can put it is this, if Texas would have won the game what would you think if we had a problem with colt doing the hook'em horns. I know its tradition and all but it if its wrong for us to do it down when we win then its just as wrong for Texas to do it up when they win....just my 2 cents

I really like what I saw from Gilbert. I mean Matt Barkley was the #1 QB in the 2009 class and he pretty much had an up-and-down season. So it wasn't surprising to see Gilbert show both flash of greatness and glimpse of the freshman he is. I think like OU with Landry Jones, I think Texas found their starter for 2010 QB starter, unless Connor Wood or Colt's lil' brother Case makes a big time move for the role, Gilbert will be the starter next year and he will thrive.

Longhorn93, I personally never doubted that Texas would make this a game, and sure enough they did. I was equally impressed by both the team responded to Gilbert and their resolved to continue to fight. It was clear to me that they were trying to win the game for Colt but also try and get Gilbert to play decently. So congrats on a team that wouldn't quit.

Much appreciated. It hurts to lose, but all I really ever want out of my teams is heart, hard play and character. I got that last night, so it's all good. I just feel for McCoy. Kid didn't deserve that.

I think Greg doing the horns down was a personal issue for him. Being from Texas and leading one of the top high schools in Texas to a state championship and hardly given a glance by Texas. Maybe as a boy he dreamed of playing for Texas who knows.

It's funny how the football bounces sometimes. I imagine GMac has gotten hammered pretty bad by his fellow Texans, I'm sure it felt sweet to get a victory over the premiere college in his home state. I haven't watched the game yet so I can't comment on the late touchdown other than to say that I don't think Mack Brown would've done anything different. You can't expect a player to not score in THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME when he has the opportunity. I don't believe it was meant as a shot at Texas or to "run up the score", it just kind of happened I imagine.
