All this time I thought I had no crock pot. Today I was looking at crockpots online when the wife came up to see what I was up to. She suspected I was on ebay buying Polo shirts again ;) (it's a long story). She saw the crock pot and said, We have one of those. I almost fell out of my chair. She took me to the kitchen and in one of the lower cabinets pulled out an unopened box with an old Rival crock pot in it. She said she got it as a gift or something years ago and never used it. It's a small 4.5 qt, white with yellow cornflowers all around it ROFL. I'm going to try it out tomorrow with some lima beans and ham hocks.

I found the Cuisinart slow cooker at Amazon.com for $89.94 and free shipping. The lowest price I found elsewhere was $99 plus $11.49 shipping. So I ordered one. If it works out I will post more crock pot / slow cooker recipies. Right now, I'm looking for some myself so if you have any, bring 'em on. :D

LOL This hasn't got a thing to do with cooking but I do like Polo shirts and I can't see buying them in town for $50-75 when I can buy them new, in the bag, with tags on ebay for $21 all day long. It's like going to Boaz and loading up LOL. But it drives my wife crazy. I buy a couple every 3-4 months.

Confirmation on the Cuisinart slow cooker said it should arrive May 3-5.

I thought a crock pot was a slow cooker. Matter of fact, I too have a 4.5 quart Rival crock pot (Mine has veggies on it.) and it actually says "Slow Cooker" on it.

Something I really like to do is cook a roast in the crock pot. Season the
roast and put about two tablespoons of olive oil in crock pot, then fill with
water. Cook for about 8 hours. The meat will be falling apart.

Then I chop the meat up and put Cattleman Barbeque Sauce on it. I heat
the sauce on the stove top before putting it on the meat.

Funny crock pot story .. my wife (not a cook) was off one day decided to surpirse me by doing a ham in the crock pot. She went to the store and bought one that was already cooked. Cooked it slow for about 8 hours and I walked in as she was pulling out this orange leathery looking blob. Only thing I could get out of my mouth was "Youre not going to make me eat that are you?"

Is your couch a sleeper sofa?

We will put a beef roast (sprinkle dry onion soup mix on both sides and put about six ounces of water) in the crock pot around 9 p.m. on Sat. night and it will be falling apart the next morning. When we get back from church there isn't much to do for lunch. Also do a boston butt pork roast in the pot. Mix catsup and mustard together and rub all over the pork roast, put about six ounces of water in to keep the roast from sticking. You can salt and pepper to taste.

I haven't had a lot of luck with cooking beans in the crock pot, but I've only done this a couple of times.

Back in my single days, and occasionally while dating Mrs. VJ, I'd pull out the crock pot (handed down to me - it was a 1970's era model), and load it up with a roast, new potatoes, onions and carrots. I'd put some water in it, of course, some woozy sauce, and a lot of cajun seasoning. I'd only stir it up to add more cajun seasoning (Tony Cachere's -found in most grocery stores). I'd let it cook on slow all day and after work it was ready.

That's about as much a gourmet chef as I ever pretended to be.

That really looks good. Pork and apples are a natural match. I think I will put this on my short list of first things to try. The new Crock Pot is on it's way to my kitchen. Should be here between Tuesday and Thursday if I figure right.

The short list is:
Crockpot Tamale PIe
Rose-Marie's Smothered Chicken
Beef And Roasted Vegetable Ragout
Short Ribs of Beef with egg noodles
Easy Pork Roast with Apples
pinto beans with ham hocks and sausge

Hoooooooooray!!! My crockpot came today and I have unpacked it.

It matches our rice cooker.

As much as I hate to have appliances and stuff laying out on the kitchen counter, these don't look that bad. I have a small beef roast thawing out to be the first sacrifice to the crockpot god or goddess.

The pot came with a pretty nice little cookbook. The front was about 4 pages of tips and how-to-do. Looking forward to a crock pot meal for Survivor night, but have Gino's Pizza's number handy just in case :D

Very nice Bayou.

When you decide to do a roast, this simple recipe still works best for me.

Chuck Roast
1 Can Beef Broth
1 FAMILY size can Cream Mushroom Soup
Baby carrots
potatoes (cubed)
sliced onions
salt & pepper

Mix the soups together and blend. I spray the bottom of my pot w/Pam just to avoid a messy clean-up afterwards. Make sure you start off with a little of the soup mixture in the bottom, then potatoes, onions, carrots, roast, more soup & start all over again until its all layered. Cook on high for 6 hours!
Great served w/rice or over toast!

I have all those ingredients. Can I add an onion? :D I'll try it tomorrow. Pizza is always an option. :D
