Croom says Bama doesn't play with class (link)

John Pruett: The Huntsville Times

A questioner in the audience asked Croom: "What impressed you most and what impressed you least about Alabama?''

"You really want to hear?'' he replied.

And then he said: "I didn't think they played with as much class as Alabama teams usually do. All that bumping and some of the other little things they did between plays ... I wasn't impressed with that at all.
...let the howling begin...

Good Grief. This guy could get the next job as the bitter beer face rep. I'm surprised all of his shirts don't have holes in the shoulders due to the size of the chip.

Yeah and the MSU guys played with so much class...

Give me a break Sly, you didn't get the Bama job and this is exactly why. Be a man and let it go.

He should clean up his back yard before jumping to ours. He reminds me of my son when he was 4 years old. He didn't get his way, so he started to blame others for his mistakes. My son did grow out of itm hopefully Croom will too. :conf2:

That's a classic case of getting handily beaten by the team that you wanted to coach, but couldn't! Stop the whining & worry about your 2-7 team that got beat by Houston & Kentucky.

Oh Where To Begin

Croom is bitter. He resents the university that made it possible for him to be a head coach in the SEC. His actions and his words over the past year have done nothing to encourage at least part of our fan base to keep defending him.
He honestly felt the Alabama coaching job was his God given right. How dare the University of Alabama pass him by. There is at least one other UofA alum on his staff and I wonder how he feels about Croom's attitude toward Alabama.
We keep using the word bitter, but it is becoming obsessive. Johns said that Croom bashed Bama pretty bad in his recruiting experience with him and we all know the now famous Croom comment to the young man. Now he says we have no class, well Mr. Croom you do have class and its all low as far as I'm concerned. For those of us who once cheered your name it is a blow to see you turn on the program that gave you so many advantages. You'll probably be fired at MSU and you will probably hold a press conference and you will probably blame the University of Alabama for that as well.

I would think 'The Bear' would be turning over in his grave about now!

Now I hope they do take his name off that award........this guy is getting ridiculous!

Well they say the creme rises to the top & when the going gets tough the tough get going! Well know I know where the creme & the tough are in residence and it just ain't in Starkville!

Another note about class:

Croom wouldn't even talk to Jimmy Johns after the game and neither would any of the MSU players. I think Croom needs take a look at his own program and see where it's going....

Sly Croom has been uttering racist and defamatory remarks about UA since day one at MSU. In my opinion, he's nothing more than a racist pig, and shouldn't be granted any respect normally given an SEC HC. We were lucky to not have him to bring us down.

Is he bitter or what! He was the guy I wanted to hire. I'm glad that we went with Shula. He has shown a lot more class and has done a better job.

You beat me to it....oh wait, there would be a media firestorm if that happened! People that live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks...

I really want to root for him at MSU, but this kind of sour grapes is unacceptable.

Coach Croom, you are better than that

I knew Coach Croom's father and had a ton of respect for him and his whole family. I had heard rumors of Coach Croom's dislike for Alabama on this board and in other places, and I did not want to believe it was true. Even for me, this article tends to confirm what I have been hearing.

If I were Coach Croom, I would undoubtedly be disappointed at best that I did not get the Alabama job and even moreso that I eventually got stuck at MSU. Nothing against the folks at MSU, but the deck is definitely stacked against the prospects of them having long-term, sustained success in their football program.

However, IMHO, he would do well to confine his comments to coachspeak and to concentrate on coaching his own team a little better. While his comments are true to an extent (Alabama is NOT a great football team, and I don't particularly care for all the extracurricular stuff that goes on down on the field these days), none of that really matters. I think his mentor probably would have said (publicly) that the other team just beat us, period. I don't know what he would have said privately, but I'm pretty sure about his public comments.

Coach Croom is only showing a lack of class by even commenting on such matters, and I know he is a classy person. I would think that if he is able to beat UT, UA, and the better teams in the conference as he describes, what he would like to hear from those other coaches is simply "you guys played a great game and really handed it to us" instead of "well, you beat us, but you guys are not that good and you show off too much besides". Plus, how much room do you have to talk when you are 2-7?

I am done attempting to have ANY respect for Croom.

He is clearly a bitter, jealous, babbling fool. Don't hand me that mess about "but he played for the Bear," either...because by Jackie Sherril, David Cuttcliffe and now Sly Croom it is clear that isn't as strong of an emotion as jealousy. I don't care what you hand us in for about margins on a recruiting pamphlet...nor do I care how often your team loses to Maine. The INSTANT you say my team plays without class when it was clear by the numerous personal fouls where the truth lies with that - your name is coming off that award.

If I was Mike Shula, the day the season ended..."Alabama doesn't honor coaches that say we play dirty. I've removed Sly's name from the spring award."

Croom Should Take Miss. State...

and leave the SEC. He could join the SWAC or MEAC and might win a few more games. Take his name off of the award at Alabama and put a name on it that shows class and heart. Make it the Lane Bearden Award. Name it after someone who let their actions and athleticism speak for them not their fat mouth.

Dear Bama Steve Define *Great*

You know I don't really care for "fans" who post this 2005 team is NOT a great team. There are a lot of things you might say about these young men as a team and there are a lot of "football stats" you might quote about the 2005 team and there are a lot of situations you could be critical of about this 2005 Crimson Tide, BUT fella, this is a GREAT football TEAM,

How many of the great championship teams in our past have had the problems this one has had. NCAA sanctions, Coaching merry go rounds and injuries to key players and low and behold they are still 9&0 in arugably the toughest league in the college football world. Great, why its a blame miracle.

These young men have found ways to win. They don't give up. They stick together. They support one another and thier coach. They are the best of the best and they want to please this fan base more than anything else they do in their lives. Who do they run to after every game and lift their arms and cheer with. They play for the sound of that Rammer Jammer and Yea Alabama.
Great, why they are more than Great. There are no million dollar contracts in their lives now, they play for the glory,, for the tradition for the right to wear that uniform they dearly love. Great, why by the standard of the word they are that and a thousand times more because they have earned what is coming their way when no one in the sports world thought they had a right to even dream it. Don't ever say this team isn't great. This team IS ALABAMA FOOTBALL!

I normally don't like to compare everything to WWBD, but I believe Coach Bryant was once asked to define class. His reply was something to the effect that, he couldn't define it, but he knew it when he saw it. After reading that article I believe I can now say that I can't define it either, but I know when I see an absence of it.

.

We do bumping?? PLEASE! Which one of the teams playing has had a personal foul the past two years for pushing a player into or over the bench?? I KNOW THAT WASN'T ALABAMA!!!

I'm fed up with it, I have been for a while after last season and some of the remarks he made post-game ticked me off...if he won't show class after he gets beat I agree with taking his name of the award and putting Lane's name on! Why honor someone who's showing his life's journey is to bring down and smash The University of Alabama?? Why don't we just put Fulmer's name on an award and call it even?? Little Brother to the West...
