As I was listening to Max Howell's "Maxed Out" a few minutes ago, he made mention that Croom would possibly resign if State lost this week to Jax. State. He said that that information came from Bo Bounds. Heard it on Supersport 930 in Jackson, MS. I'm not trying to start any kind of rumors, I was just wondering if anyone else has heard this info?

I don't see Croom being at Miss. State any longer than next year. I don't know if he will be fired or "resign." I realize he walked into a horrendous mess at State, but I don't think he is the answer and I think the State people are beginning to see that. They play pretty good defense, but to say the offense leaves something to be desired would be a major understatement. They've had some embarrassing losses and I don't see them making much progress.

This is my personal opinion, I think Croom is a pretty good assistant coach, but I just don't think he is a head coach. Mark my words, he will be gone by the end of the 2007 if not before.

Who is Bo Bounds?

I don't think Sylvester Croom would resign if they lost to Jax State, but I do think he will take a very close look at his coaching staff (which I don't believe is a very good staff) and make some critical changes for 2007.

Bo is just a local radio guy here is Jackson Mississippi. He usually does have pretty good knowledge about the happenings at State, but is kidding around most of the time. He may have meant he OUGHT to resign if they lose to Jax State. Sad thing here in MS is that they are considering this weekend a BIG game for State.

Hey ace, I live in Pearl also. Email me and let's talk some Bama football. My wife gets tired of listening to me. email to tim.earley@acs-inc.com

Roll Tide!

Win or lose Saturday, Sly has to finish the season strong. Sounds like the entire Athletic Department may be getting an overhaul in Starkville. If so, I don't like Sly's chances of holding on. Sly's comments earlier in the season, "I'll fire myself before I fire an assistant," may come true.

Boosters in Starkville are more concerned about Sly's off-the-field demeanor than his on-the-field success.

Bama Jim, what do you mean by off field demeanor?

I'll take a stab at that one. It seems his whole reason for even being in Starkville was to take countless jabs at Alabama for not hiring him. It seems that is his only reason for even considering the job. He has handled the media terribly and rubbed many people the wrong way. Not to mention that his teams have gotten worse and worse each year.

Given the state of that program, who would they find to replace him? I mean it was hard for us to find someone, but Miss. State is in an infinitely worse position to me.

If MSU loses to two D-IAA programs in three years, and given their track record during his tenure there, that should be enough for MSU to not be too harshly criticized for firing him due to reasons of race. Of course, I'm sure there would be some political fall-out; however, they are regressing, and in a big way. Yeah, MSU may not be the perfect job, but they should be atleast as competitive as Vanderbilt. From what some of their fans say, they would be happy to be on the same level as Vandy...or Maine...or Tulane...and maybe Jax St.

Do you think if CSC did leave Miss State he would become the O-line coach under CMS?

Unless I have totally misunderstood him, he is too bitter to ever be associated with Alabama again. Even if he is on speaking terms, his ego would not let him go from head coach to assistant, especially since it is not as OC.
