Croyle: USM took cheap shots

ut may produce more convicts than a major city!

Seriously, USM seemed to "use" their misfortune as an excuse for their actions.

I was at the game and was terribly upset at some of the things I saw. There were numerous personal fouls, but I thought some other things looked very much like cheap shots. I even saw a brief altercation on the opening kickoff. Looked like the USM guy started it. It went downhill from there.

As to UT, I know a certain amount of this is part of football. However these guys would be smart to keep their mouths shut. Check it out.

Sideline Pass

Rammer Jammer wasn't displayed during the game but after what happen at the game the cheer was used after the game. As the USM players were leaving approximately 50 to 60 BAMA students did Rammer Jammer over and over till the USM team was out of sight. Several members were angered with Croyle being slammed to the ground after the play was blown dead and the constant cheap shots throughout the game. Hitting our RB while down with a closed fist. I lost count of the Personal Fouls.

BAMA fans showed good judgement due to the hurricane but the USM players or their coaches offered no apology to anyone. Coach Bower has lost control of a once good team. The two other schools Ole Miss and Miss St. avoid the Eagles due to the fact USM would be State Champs every year. It is ashame. USM pretty much lets a team know where they are and should be. This game was no different.

I for one wish USM would come into the SEC West. Series Record 34 - 6 - 2 The Tide owns them. A lot of teams play dirty as did USM. BAMA just needs to keep smacking'em right in the kisser. USM is no exception. USM is running away due to the fact they have very little success even when BAMA was down. One USM poster indicated he thought USM would own BAMA due to its NCAA and injury problems last season. Sorry your Beagles disappointed you GoldenEagle.

Call me crazy but after last week I would Love for BAMA to continue the series.

A lot of people must not have played football. Cheapshots, I hate to admit, happen all the time. I am sure Bama throws a few everygame. They may not be as obvious as a punch or choke, but every team gives and takes extra hits. No one knows what goes on at the bottom of a pile up. Players do whatever they can to win.

USM is the trailer park team of the south...

but I say that with apologies to my relatives. USm was the "mid-major" before the term became popular. Now that they don't have us on their schedule, they'll go back to anonymity. And with any luck, they might never appear on TV again. Quite a legacy Bower is leaving in his wake. They play tough, but we don't need a low-budget version of the Hurricanes.

Now don't get in an uproar, but even our beloved Tide has had players "push off of their knees" ... on the other guy's throat, toss a coupla punches to the ribs while scrambling for a ball or trying to push one in for the down and inches TD.

I have not seen our players in year do some of the more blatant stuff like trying to twist ankles and so on, but I am sure it goes on. One person once told me that some of those things are coached.

However, USM certainly made a spectacle of themselves.

Agree with exiledNms

I agree with exiledNms. If you live in Hattiesburg, you get a much better view of the "clean" program Bower runs. For instance, two players were supposed to be suspended for 1 game for a violation of team rules. After their opener was postponed, they should have served that suspension during the Bama game. However, one of the suspendees was Eubanks and Bower knew USM couldn't beat Bama without him. So, Bower lifted the suspension, saying that the players had been though enough.

As I posted elsewhere, the players "going though enough" included spending the entire post-hurricane experience in Memphis in A/C, with TV, power, and clean water. They didn't cut one tree or hand out one bag of relief supplies (Sorry you missed the PR opportunity, Bower?).

Bower puts his name in the hat for every coaching vacancy while fervently denying such activity in public. He pins inadequacies on his assistants and sells them out to save his job. You might as well call him Jackie Sherrill, Jr.

USM fans are, as a group, low-class. They spew profanities and defend it saying that it's just part of football. They talk smack about beating Bama six times in 45 tries (or whatever) and then cry about poor officiating when they lose. They act like they are an elite program, yet they cannot get an invitation to a major conference. C-USA was their shot, and as C-USA disintegrates around them, they whine about Ole Miss and State keeping them out of the SEC. The SEC???? USM has never been SEC material, and they never will be. With its 35,000 seat stadium, its deplorable student support, its failure to sell out home games with Nebraska and Cal, etc., etc., USM has proven that they are a glorified Juco program.

You ought to get the real story on Derrick Nix (former stud RB and current assistant) if you think Bower is a good guy.
