A&M vs ORU
Bama vs UH

We will probably throw our #2 or #3 guy (Finch or Kensing) against ORU. Kensing is my bet because I am hearing the bama lineup is very right hand heavy and that may mean that we throw Finch the hard throwing righty out against you instead of our ace Parcus, the soft throwing lefty.

In your game I assume both Bama and UH will throw their aces (is their a drop off from #1 to #2 and #2 to #3 for bama? -- big drop off for UH from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3).

Our lineup is very balanced lefty righty and can hit from top to bottom (well the 9 hole alexander isnt much to speak of batting around .200 in conference).

I see us meeting up with you guys in the winners bracket saturday and again for the title. However, I could definately see UH winning with their ace and then losing their next 2. I am actually rooting for UH so that we dont face you guys until you are on the brink of elimination and have used a lot of your staff. Im sure however that if you win your game you will be rooting for ORU.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't go overlooking Oral Roberts just yet. We decided not to pitch our number 1 against the 4 seed last year and it may have been what cost us the regional. Shane Sanders did good, but I don't think SEMO could have touched Lance. JMO.

Our lineup is not what I would consider "right hand heavy," considering that lately we have had four left-handed hitters in the order (at least against right-handed pitching). The top third hits from the right side of the plate, but Welch, Beagle, Meiners, and Rice are all capable lefties that will play. Against a southpaw starter, you could very well see some adjustments in the lineup, with Al Hecklinski, a power-hitting DH, moving into the order, and a possible adjustment in leftfield, but Beagle has been hitting the ball so well in recent games, he may remain a starter no matter who is throwing.

The lineup is actually very balanced from top to bottom, but may be subject to adjustment according to the opposing pitcher.

I am unsure as to what the approach will be with the rotation this weekend. Carter, Woodward, Johnson, Tankersley, and Norris are all likely to get a call at any given time, and as always, Brian Reed will be there to close it out.

I am actually rooting for Oral Roberts because I don't have much use for A&M and in another thread you insulted this board and my fellow posters. I don't even know why I bothered to respond.

I wouldn't argue that our lineup is tough 1-8, but it is very tough 1-6. Fact is that we've had trouble finding a steady DH and, with the loss of our primary first baseman to a broken arm, we lost one of our better bats. Right now I think we're very good 1-5, good at 6, have potential at 7, and 8 and 9 are the proverbial auto-outs. Any contribution from the bottom 3 is bonus, to be honest. With our pitching of late 6 solid hitters has been enough in most games.

The batters to watch out for are Corey Patton and Erik Schindewolf. Patton is a power lefty with a solid average and commands a lot of respect. He's had a knack for the big hit at a crucial time. Schindewolf is a contact lefty with a .350 average and a great eye. He's patient and makes a pitcher throw strikes, he'll take a walk any time it's offered.

Overall I think we have a very good team, but not a great one. When the bottom 1/3 of the lineup is questionable, you're not great. We have 3 or 4 solid starters and a freshman that everyone thinks can provide that lightening-in-a-bottle extra start if you need to play 5 to win the regional. Our bullpen is good depending on how deep we have to go to get quality starts, and we've got a very good closer in Scott Beerer. Beerer is what a college ball player should be, he played LF until we lost our first baseman, then he moved to first. He's hitting .325 or so with 10 HRs, has a 1.6 ERA and 12 saves. Gotta love a kid that does all that.

Defense won't beat us, it led the Big 12 in fielding percentage. Erik Schindewolf at 2B has 1 error in 31 Big 12 games this year!!! The highlight reel fielder is freshman Cliff Pennington, a SS playing 3B for the first time ever. His fielding percentage isn't good (.900), but he's gotten better over the 2nd half and he's got a cannon for an arm.

Folks, better watch what Ag Fan 06 has to say on here, he might be talking out both sides of his mouth at times. Here is just a sample of what AgFan06 is saying about Bama and the SEC.

"The deal with the SEC is about how they got all the national seeds and the big 12 got none. Most of us feel the SEC was a pretty inferior conference this year(I think Kansas swept LSU @ LSU and Kansas was the 8th place big 12 team). Also FLorida who didnt even qualify for the SEC tourney made the field of 64 and thats ridiculous.

Directions from Highway 6 from Houston to Olsen Field:
Take 2818 (Harvey Mitchel) exit
Turn right on Wellborn
Turn Left on George Bush
Turn Right on Olsen Blvd
Stadium will be on your right

If you are coming from Waco Direction (DFW folks) then you will take the 2818 exit and then go about 10 miles around the loop (2818 is the loop around BCS) till you get to George Bush. Turn left on George Bush and then turn left again on Olsen BLVD. Stadium will be on your right, parking on your left by Reed Arena. Good luck Coogs, beat the hell outta bama."
