FYI Bama fans- Here in Miami they had a news special on DP and the coaches said a lot of nice things about DP and his future as a Miami Dolphin. Even Zack Thomas was interviewed and said he has taking a liking to him and that he knew DP had natural instinct from the beginning. Second string!!!
Keep up the hard work DP and thanks for representing Alabama football!!!

That is great news! I'm a big Dolphin fan and I was very happy to hear that they picked him up in the draft. Zach Thomas will be the perfect mentor for Derrick. Zach just proves that it's not all about size in the NFL, but about heart & keeping your motor running all of the time. Derrick reminds of Zach quite a bit. They will both lay the leather to you in a heartbeat.

--Just a sidenote about Zach: He comes from a very wealthy family in Texas. I read an article about him right after he completed his rookie year in the NFL and won Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. The interviewer asked if he thought that his salary would increase since he won the award and he only cleared about $65,000 his rookie year (he was a late 6th or 7th round draft pick by Jimmy Johnson). Zach said that $65 K a year was plenty for him. He didn't care about the money - he just loved to play football. Man, that's a true love of the game that you just don't see much of anymore.

Derrick Pope has a killer instinct

You can't teach that. I wish we had 11 with his attitude playing on defense this year. That seek and destroy mentality will get him on special teams, if nothing else.

I'm glad to hear such great news about Pope, although I have to say I'm not surprised. He and W. Bacon were definitely my favorite players over the past few seasons.

I really wish you guys could have seen the special!!! You could hear the coaches yelling "That's it DP...that's exactly where you're suppose to be!!!" They showed clips of him at Alabama...talk about feeling PROUD!!! These people in South Florida aren't gonna know how to act now that Alabama football has arrived!!! :)

I too am a hge Fins fan (and my name is Eddie to BTW). Now that Ricky W. is gone give the ball to DP!! WooT !!

Man, there were times when I wondered if Derrick Pope was the only guy on defense we had. You would hear his name called a dozen times a game regularly. What a great ball player and true hustler.

"I'm a hustla baby.."
