Oof. Typo... I think with was actually 72-45... Or sumpin close.72-24 isn’t .61. It’s about 73%
A good bit lower than the Dabo record.

I get his 'good ole boy' demeanor along with his Bama background endear him to some here, but I've long suspected that his success (suddenly consistently winning at least 10 games every year after starting his first three years with a combined record of 19-15) was achieved via the continuation of what got Bama hammered while he was here. Those who know, know (I don't) but they claim Bama would never hire him because of something(s) he did when he coached under Coach Stallings.
Someone asked about what Clemson was before Dabo and someone answered "Clemsoning" but IIRC, that was true for several years after Dabo took over there too. It's like they inventing ways to lose, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!
But, to his credit, he learned how to win and he won big for a while. But it seems things have leveled out now for reasons stated earlier in the thread.
And one other thing for the Clemson fanbase to remember: Were it not for Danny Ford and Dabo Sweeney, Clemson wouldn't have anything to brag about minus those two Bama boys.
I think that's accurate. I have no evidence of it myself.I get his 'good ole boy' demeanor along with his Bama background endear him to some here, but I've long suspected that his success (suddenly consistently winning at least 10 games every year after starting his first three years with a combined record of 19-15) was achieved via the continuation of what got Bama hammered while he was here.
It's not always that simple, but it's hard to have a very good team with a very good QB, especially in this modern era of high scoring offenses.Clemson's (Dabo's) problem right now is that they don't have a good quarterback. That team is talented enough to be undefeated right now, but Klubnick seems to be the piece that is holding the offense back. I've watched him play this year and no way he goes before the 4th or 5th round of the draft, if he's even drafted at all. He's looked bad.
Have you watched him play this season? He's hardly an "average" QB at best right now. He's not seeing wide open receivers, making grossly wrong reads at the line, etc. He's already thrown half the interceptions through three games that he threw all of last season. Below are Klubnik's stats through three games and Ty's stats through three games. Klubnik was supposed to have Ty's stats, and most pundits would have told you before the season that Ty would have Klubnik's stats. Dabo has a quarterback problem, just like Texas does. It's not always that simple, but it's hard to have a very good team with a very good QB, especially in this modern era of high scoring offenses.
We did it with some good 'uns like GMac and Coker, but I suppose that wouldn't work as well anymore. But from watching Klubnick so far, I think ole Dabo would kill for a Gmac or Coker right now.
That tracks.I get his 'good ole boy' demeanor along with his Bama background endear him to some here, but I've long suspected that his success (suddenly consistently winning at least 10 games every year after starting his first three years with a combined record of 19-15) was achieved via the continuation of what got Bama hammered while he was here.
Maybe so, but I'd love to know the details of the phone call between Saban and Dabo right after Saban decided to retire. I can't help but wonder if Saban was testing Dabo at all to see if he was interested. I know Dabo said publicly many times he's happy at Clemson.
I had heard for years about how great our transition plan was and how Saban would carefully step down. And then he basically decided as he was walking into the auditorium... Oof!He probably was feeling Dabo out. Meanwhile Byrne was on the phone with CKD offering a fully guaranteed contract and writing a blank check to Milroe.
I think as time passes we will learn more that there was a transition plan in place. But that all went in the hand basket when Saban abruptly retired which resulted in going into crisis mode.
I really wish he hadn't done it that way. Granted, he doesn't owe me anything, but it just might of saved us from accepting the ridiculous buyout number that Jimmy Sexton demanded in DeBoer's contract. Not saying we shouldn't have hired DeBoer after Saban, but if it had been "by the plan," we would have had more leverage at the negotiating table and pushed a lower number back across the table rather than just saying "tell us where to sign, Jimmy!".I had heard for years about how great our transition plan was and how Saban would carefully step down. And then he basically decided as he was walking into the auditorium... Oof!
I don't blame him though... The football world had and has changed.

I have no doubt that he was thinking about it well in advance... and through 2023 the energy was off.I don't agree. You dont walkout on a program that collectively you helped build into the preeminent program in history - regardless of the circumstances or era of college football.
And he can say what he wants but he made the decision before the 2023 season to retire. He just didnt tell all the people he should have, aka his boss.
I heard it in several places in August 2023 by people who would know.
Saban nor the AD either didnt know or appreciate the transfer portal window opening only for Bama for 30 days allowing every program poach everyone of our players.
I am convinced replacing tour coach during the season is the only way going forward to potentially mitigate the roster loss.
If I’m not mistaken he was the bag man for a bit and the means sitch was the reason he had to start doing real estate after he was let go at bama. Clemson (Tommy) hired him when literally no one else would. He was radioactiveThose who know, know (I don't) but they claim Bama would never hire him because of something(s) he did when he coached under Coach Stallings.
