“Late first or early second round," he said. “To tell the truth, I’m really not thinking about it right now. All I’m doing is thinking about Texas Tech. When this is all over, we’ll sit down and talk about this and figure it out."

Darby Hints

1) scheduled to graduate in May as we've discussed before.
2) if you'll look at the RB's coming out this year, it's a great time for KD to make the move.

We'll know for sure by the 15th of next month if he's the only one...or if he makes the move at all.

Personally, I think it's the perfect time.

Rightfully or not, I think he was very disappointed in what may have been percieved as a lack of committment to the run our last couple of games. What does he really have to gain in staying vs.losing if he goes pro? With our offense and depth at running back next year, how much would he improve his draft status when stacked up against the chance of a bad injury? Tough call.

I think he would be making a big mistake. More than likely, KD will not go very high in the draft IMO. If he comes back, he will more than likely be heralded as the top back in the SEC coming into next season and will be playing behind a much better offensive line. Yes, the threat of injury is always there, but so is the chance of not getting drafted.

Fod,

I've seen you say somethings here that I disagreed with personally. But, making a comparison like the one you've made couldn't be more wrong.

Fod i agree with you. Thats a pretty apt comparison imo. If Darby goes and we dont get Mike Ford, I may be a little concerned.

I could name so many ways these two situation are different. BUT, let's start with a real simple one, shall we?

Beard didn't choose to leave early. He was basically left with no other option because of his academic situation.

VERSUS? Darby is about to graduate in May and hasn't been anything but a great student since his time at the Capstone.

I think that Darby has the goods for the NFL. If he has a strong Cotton Bowl, I say that he goes.

Our info...

is that he's probably gone, if he projects late first, early second round. The staff has shot straight with him in advising him about his chances. However, this is one of those things where we won't know until the last minute...

The good news is K.D. will have his diploma so no matter what he does in the world, he'll be fine. On the negative side, I've always thought K.D. had similar equipment to Sherman Williams. As we know Sherman didn't have an illustrious pro career. I wish him well whatever he choses. My hope is he'll stay another year and increase his skills and stats. Then he may be a little more viable in the pros. JMO

It'll be a shame to lose him, if he does go.

His running style should make him an excellent 3rd down back in the NFL. I see similar success to Julius Jones of the Cowboys. He has to find the right coaching staff, though. Hey, he'd work out great with my Cowboys! :)

Oh, and the Beard comparison is a bad one. Was Beard ever the "feature/go to" guy? Darby has pretty much been that 2 years now. His injury throttled him back last year, but he was playing well up until then.

I feel KD would have more carries & yards next year. R. Bush, L. White (?), L. Maroney, and D. Williams would all go ahead of him this year I believe. I hope he waits. He will/would be the offensive leader next year. If he goes this year, I say he is late second round at best.

That's a cheap shot. KD has always given The University his best. He takes care of his academics and wears that Crimson jersey with pride. He worked his butt off rehabbing after his injury and gave what little offense we had after the Gator game. You owe him an apology.

That's not where...

the pro scouts are projecting him. They're projecting late first early second, in which case he's probably gone...

to add to what you've pointed out...

When it comes to a head coach giving advice to a player who is thinking of moving onto the next level there are a few points that need noting.

We've known for the last few years now how Shula and his honest approach can only be categorized as "brutally honest." Secondly, when it comes to someone being able to recognize how well a person would do at the next level, I'd take the advice of one who has been in the NFL for what...15 years??...as compared to say some of the other HC's we've seen over the past decade.

I can just hear some of those others now...it's your "destiny." Or, "it'll be a tremendous challenge and a great OPPortunity."
