Darby Says Don't Worry

Re: DARBY

Has it escaped observation that the plays being called for Johns and Darby are different? As example, how many times was Johns asked to run between the tackles yesterday? Versus Darby's calls?

I am sure that this has not escaped those examining our film, either...

No, I don't think that has escaped anyone. Which would lead to the question of why aren't we going with plays that are working? Something isn't right somewhere. I don't know what it is, but something isn't right.

Johns is getting past the line of scrimmage regularly, Castille is getting past the line of scrimmage regulalrly, McClain is getting past the line of scrimmage regulalry. Darby isn't. I don't know why but I am not going to argue those facts. They speak for themselves.

Re: DARBY

it just seems to me he's lost a lot of confidence running the ball right now. there was a few runs today that looked like the old darby (his last carry i think) but he looks like he doesn't have the strength to break tackles like last year, find the right hole, and a lot of times he's trying to make too many moves. i hope it's from the injury because this kid is too good to waste on lost confidence.

Trust me when I tell you that Darby and the words 'lost confidence' shouldn't even be in the same sentence. It's an oxymoron.

I heard one of the FSN guys mention that he playing with a bum hip or something to that effect...that would make anyone conscious of their runs...

Re: DARBY

I don't know that there's afirm diagnosis yet, but a hip flexor injury seems likely. That hurts running, particularly cutting. My worry is that it won't heal as long as he keeps running...

Darby Says Don't Worry
Something sure seemed wrong with Kenneth Darby, with most signs pointing to the hip pointer injury Darby suffered in last week’s season opener against Hawaii. The Crimson Tide senior and hopeful for the career rushing title at Alabama finished with 65 yards on 21 carries Saturday, coming off just 25 yards last week.

“I’m stumbling a lot more now,” Darby said, “but it’s just something that’s going to have to heal.”

thank you terry p. i have saying this for both games played. johns has made his yards on the outside of andre smith, where his speed, and size is a big asset, he is a north south runner. darby made his best runs wide outside the other tackle. is this a coincidence. no, our offensive line is not blocking well between the tackles. if you really watch, the other teams defensive line is our backfield before darby can even get to a hole. he may be injured still, but, even so he is the best we got, and he needs to play. he is an all sec back. some say that castille and mcclain seem to be running well inside, well guess what they are big backs, north south runners designed to hit for a 2 or 3 yard gain for 1st downs or touchdowns. how soon so many forget what a great back ken darby is, and calling for inexperienced players to play. we need johns and darby as a tandem and we will see grant and upchurch probably this week. we have to resolve our blocking problems between the tackles if we are to compete this year.

I'm with Earle, Darby has more of a hip flexor (torn curtain muscle in pelvis) than hip pointer. Hip pointer is easier to say because more people know what that is. It's not a serious injury but it does need rest to heal.

Re: DARBY

We trust Shula...
Isn't it refreshing to not have a quarterback controversy? At least no one is calling for a different starting quarterback.

I agree with you on the question at hand. Shula spends a good deal more time with Darby than I do. He probably knows a bit more about football than I do. It is his job, not mine, to select starting players, and call plays. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I do know more about counter-insurgency than Shula does, however. :p

My point is that if he is playing hurt and he is not at the level he was last year then it hurts the team.
Take him out and let him heal up before we start our “tuff” part of the schedule.
I have heard it said that “you can’t loose your starting job because of injury”
So when he heals up he will get the start no matter how good any of the other running backs do while he is out.
