It concerns me a little that they are not getting the reps I would expect them to. With just over week to go do you think they will be ready? Darby only had one run in Tuesdays scrimmage.

It doesn't worry me at all. Yes, they're coming back from injuries, but they have real game experience where the other guys don't. I don't know if that's the logic behind it or not. Personally I think we should ease Castille back in slowly, and (don't take this the wrong way) but I hope we don't have to see him til at least Arkansas or Florida. I'd rather not risk his return until necessary.

These guys are tried and true. :)

since the vast majority of our running backs being new, they need the work, and I think we verified that Darby and Casteel are ready, I think McLain may start at fullback though. but Casteel will play.

I don't know about this Jimmy Johns kid, I think it might be more toward mid season before you see him in the backfield. I think Casteel is ready to handle the goal line stuff, and Upchurch and Coffie are ready to spell Darby. Eventually however I think they will put Johns in there to see how much damage he can do, Its going to be an interesting experiment. He's built like a freight train.

Just speculation here...

We've talked about different things Shula has held onto from his days in the NFL. Along with the other points mentioned in this thread, I think this is another trait he's still clinging onto. If you think about it, the NFL teams very seldom use their starters in pre-season work. Partly, for fear of injury and secondly to get back-ups the reps they need to evaluate where they can contribute.

Like I said, it's just speculation...but I can see a "thread" there.

I agree w/Terry.

I have no worries about that. Just consider the youth behind Castille and Darby for a moment and you'll see the justification for it. These freshman WILL PLAY and they need all the work they can get so as to adjust to the next level.

Just getting them ready.

That makes a lot of sense to me too.

I just can't understand how over and over a true Bama fan can honestly mistake it. It is C-a-s-t-i-l-l-e. A second generation Bama name. It's even in the thread title.

That's one...

NFL habit he can keep, as far as I'm concerned. However, I'm glad he kicked the "all the eggs in one QB" habit... :D
