UAB hires David Crane

I hate to see David go; he and Chris Stewart always managed to keep the broadcasts entertaining. It would have been nice if the CTSN had just made David a nice enough offer to remain in Tuscaloosa. Now, his on-air talents are going to be heard by maybe ten or twelve people at best. Yes, we all know that thousands and thousands of televisions and radios across the state are regularly tuned in to Blazer athletic broadcats. What's ironic is that David probably realizes this more than anybody.

Maybe we can get Ernie Harwell to come out of retirement to take his place.

I like Chris Stewart, but I've always found David Crane very boring... a perfect fit for Alabama-Birmingham.

I'm a big Crane fan myself. It's a shame more people didn't get to hear him. Now, after this move, he would have more listeners calling little league games in Opp.

David and Chris were geat together. Both have great senses of humor which you need sometimes, especially on radio. Professionally David may have been in a rut though, I can understand the change in scenery. And having to do girls basketball had to be the pits, he's better than that. I'll miss him.

Don't be surprised if you see (or at least hear) David again. Eli Gold won't do Alabama football forever. When he retires, a new "Voice of the Crimson Tide" will have to be hired. By going to UAB, David will get experience doing football on the radio and I would expect that he will be a candidate to replace Eli.

You may be right, but I'd hope that Chris Stewart would get the nod before David.

You may well be right TideAlum. However, this would give Dvid the advantage of having football play-by-play experience. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see them working together on football games.
