Another Bama forum just posted that in a BOL article Glenn Harbin "made it clear he was Bama bound" and is "making his commitment tommorow." I'm not a memeber of BOL, so has anyone heard anything about on BOL?

Re: Harbin commiting tommorow?

Given the totality of what everyone is saying, Harbin is seemingly ours. The only real question is when it becomes official.

This one shocked me. He gets back from visiting the visor and USC on 1/21 and says that USC is his favorite. Now, 9 days later we're his pick? Makes me nervous.....

Any insight as to what might have happened to change his mind?

I think Bama has been his favorite all along, but with the numbers crunch, I'm not sure if Bama was planning on taking him. I think the staff decided to take him because they think RQ is going elsewhere.. JMO of course.

Re: Harbin commiting tommorow?

Just an educated guess on my part but chances are that once the coaches realized Green was sold on UF and that Quinn is likely headed to UNC it made the decision to take a commit from Harbin a no brainer.

Gotta like keeping the kids in-state.

The numbers obviously aren't known. But he has been a Bama lean the whole time.

Re: Harbin commiting tommorow?

I do not think there was ever any doubt that we have always been the leader for Glenn Harbin. The problem was that we were, seemingly, looking to take only one more defensive end, and that Robert Quinn was the number one overall target on our board. Now that Quinn is seemingly headed to North Carolina, that created a spot for Harbin.

I don't think it was ever a question as to whether or not Harbin wanted us. The question was whether or not we wanted Harbin. I think that explains the flip-flop from South Carolina to Alabama. He had South Carolina as a leader before the most recent development with Quinn and UNC.

Green never factored into this equation IMHO. Like others have said I believe once the staff felt their chances at Quinn slipping away they turned up the heat on Harbin.

Correct.

Green and Harbin play two very different positions. Harbin is a legitimate 3-4 defensive end, while Green needs to gain 20-25 pounds before he could even play outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme.

The recruitment of one did not affect the recruitment of the other. Apples and oranges.

Re: Harbin commiting tommorow?

That is what I like to see, a recruit that knows where he wants to go and takes it when it becomes available. Guys who let their ego get in the way and make rash decisions because they were not "first choice" most times live to regret those decisions. There can't be a lot of difference in the talents and the one that wants to be at Bama is the best choice for Bama.
Come on down, Harbin!!!!

Yup, gotta love that maturity and understanding of how this thing is a business, and despite not being the first choice he still decides to do whats right for him.

However, I think I recently had a discussion with BETider that I have wanted this guy all along. I'd love to have Quinn just as much, and hope to still get him and maybe leave Dareus out.

I think Harbin will be a big time get and think he'll also be a big factor in helping our Run D.

Re: DE Glenn Harbin Update (commiting to Alabama today?)

There are a lot of rumblings on the Internet saying that a Mobile radio station is reporting that Harbin has committed to Alabama.

I can't find any confirmation yet, but it should be coming soon.
