It was more simple than that. All CKD had to do was hold serve and beat a struggling Oklahoma in Norman. It never should have been in the hands of the committee. That team went into that game with everything in front of them and laid an egg.

The QB laid an egg. I don't really blame DeBoer for that one at all, maybe because I somewhat expected it to happen while we had that QB. The rest of the team played fine, but you can't win when you give the ball away that many times. I was telling people before that game and the Michigan game that I felt like we might lose, just based on the types of defenses the QB struggled against, so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. We play those teams ten times with that QB and we probably lose 7 or 8 against both. T

Whether you place the blame on QB play or coaching, ultimately it falls squarely on CKD. And certainly we as Bama fans can’t point fingers at the selection committee. A spot in the playoffs was ours to be had. And we didn’t close the deal.

Sometimes bad QB play is impossible to overcome, and that's why I give DeBoer a complete pass for that entire season. Besides, most of us predicted 9-3 anyways, we just thought 9-3 would have us in the playoffs. And how can we not point fingers at the selection committee when would be in if the committee actually did their job? This has been a constant problem ever since we expanded. The committee only wants to focus on straight wins and losses, without a care in the world to who you've beaten. You're right, a win over OU fixes this , but there's no excuse for us not being in regardless.

Yeah, that one was entirely on Milroe. His body language was tipping the plays and Venables is really good at taking advantage of that...

It has nothing to do with the "why now?" question of the extension, and also the question of "Why did the university leverage itself more in the extension when they were already severely leveraged in the original one?"

Asking those questions has nothing to do with wanting another coach. It doesn't matter who the coach is, why did the university feel the need to give the extension before the 2026 season, and why did they put themselves in a worse financial position than they already were with the original contract? That's what many are wanting to know.

However if DeBoer was being truthful when he said he didn't come to Bama only to leave in a few years then the chances of that are very slim. The second possibility is that Byrne has heard the criticism coming from some of the fanbase and some in the media of the DeBoer hire and felt he had to respond in some way. So rather than do nothing and remain silent leading some to believe he might be having second thoughts he decided to respond strongly to the critics by doubling down on the hire.

Bottom line CKD was playing the hand he was dealt by ADGB, promises were made prior to his hire to keep a competitive roster intact. A good many of those elements were incompatible QB, OL, and DL. Bama didnt have the money to let all the players portal out and rebuild through the portal. There was a plan to transition from Saban. What we saw was Plan B.

In the mind of ADGB, the last 2 years had no factor in CKD resume at Bama each side fulfilled their obligations to each other.

This is professional football now and business choices have to be made. We dont just have the pick of the litter recruiting now. And you must run systems that will allow freshmen to play competitively. We didnt have that with Saban's defense, Fitzpatrick and Downs notwithstanding.

NFL teams want to make the playoffs and then reevaluate goals. Same here now.

These agents have the ability to create "rumors" with just one phone call to set up a situation that puts the universities in a very leveraged situation. The university can either believe the rumors and pull the checkbook out, or roll the dice that it's all bull hockey and run the risk of it being real and their coach gets hired out from under them. It's a sick game agents have the ability to play. Saban's agent did it to Alabama about every other year to get him a significant raise and extension.

the poster's first post ever was a negative post. He continues to post negative posts. Now having said that, DeBoer has not done anything to warrant a contract extension or a raise. I am perplexed as to why this happened.

I just hope they are right and not throwing good money after bad with this extension. He's on the clock as far as I'm concerned. It's his third year. He's playing almost exclusively with his players for his system. It's time to deliver. I'm pulling for him to succeed and I think he can, but he's going to have to show everyone on the field.
