I think the problem is - in this day and age of NIL, the transfer portal, social media, and the kids just generally being more prima donna-ish than ever - players are infinitely more likely to respond to screaming/"hard coaching" in the former manner instead of the latter. Why play somewhere you have some jerk yelling at you all day when you could go somewhere else where the coach is "nicer" and you still make a bajillion dollars?Some players will shut down if you scream at them. Some players will run through a brick wall and win you the game.
I'd say the "old days" of coaches screaming and belittling players are going the way of the dodo. In some respects, it's because kids are softer and that style no longer works. But in other ways, coaches are becoming more sophisticated on the mental side of the game and figuring out better ways to motivate players than just jumping down their throats...
