An NBC reporter pressed Rep. Jason Smith about the fact that some of his Biden allegations pertain to a period of time when Biden wasn't in office or a candidate for one. Smith had no answer, saying "I'm not an expert on the timeline," then got snappy with the reporter & moved on.
finally watched this, hate that I waited it needs to be experienced

This was inevitable.

Matt Gaetz says he will attempt to oust Kevin McCarthy from the speakership this week | CNN Politics

McCarthy, for one of the few times in his spineless jellyfish life, did the right thing to avert the government shutdown. Now he gets the treatment he gave Liz Cheney.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving scumbag (well, other than Gaetz himself).
I suspect McCarthy has an agreement with a few Democrats to help him retain his position. IOW, he's still a spineless jellyfish.

1) Probably does have a deal, though if I'm a Democrat, why would I help this guy?
2) no argument on the spineless part, ever.

I saw a Tweet last night from a generally conservative commentator who basically said, "Why not just hand Hakeem Jefferies the gavel right now?"

===============================================

Although if I'm a D, I think, "Wow, we could really have some fun with Gaetz as speaker and his pardons," how often does "that slimeball is Speaker and we have to oppose that person" REALLY work? It's the "throw out the records at the Iron Bowl" myth applied to politics.

Didn't work with Tip O'Neill.
Didn't work with Jim Wright, who had to resign in disgrace.
Foley lost, but the Dems didn't lose the 94 House "because Tom Foley"
Didn't work with Newt Gingrich (GOP held the House in 96 despite all the "Gingrich-Dole shutdown" ads and in 98 despite an unpopular impeachment - and then Newt resigned)
Didn't work with Nancy Pelosi.

Yes, the opposition won control of the House but NOT "because Pelosi is Speaker and we all hate her."

The others weren't in power when their party lost control.

How exactly are they going to oust him? During the Speaker vote in January he was within a dozen or so votes of winning on every ballot until the far right caved. Are they somehow going to get everyone to suddenly vote for Gym Jordan?

i think this goes into some of that. but who knows what these morons are capable of

If Gaetz succeeds in ousting McCarthy, the House will enter uncharted territory.

When McCarthy was elected speaker, House rules required him to give a secret list of “speakers-in-waiting” — people who would succeed him temporarily if he ever vacated the speakership.

“There’s a little disagreement amongst Hill procedural experts about how much power that temporary Speaker would actually wield,” Sarah Binder, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution who’s well versed in congressional procedure, wrote in an email to The Post. “Is their power limited to conducting a new speaker election? What if the election deadlocks without electing a new speaker? Is the House really frozen and unable to do business?”

House Democratic leadership thinks a temporary speaker would only have the power to oversee the election of a new speaker and that no other business could take place in the meantime, according to a Democratic leadership aide.
