Your point is valid, of course, but just pointing out that Jerrod Mayo is no longer the Patriots' head coach.
You can tell how little I pay attention to the NFL. I don't know what happened - and I never had the zeal of some fans, never bet - but I'll watch the Super Bowl and that's about it now. Maybe a game here or there like Bills-Chiefs. Steelers-Ravens is always fun and I loathe both.

But your correction is noted.

:)

The Browns owner is notorious for forcing the GM/HC to make picks that they themselves do not believe will benefit the team. I seem to remember a similar less-than-enthusiastic reaction when they drafted Manziel. So, the Browns owner probably thought they should drafty Sanders based off of the name and how much perceived value Sanders lost from the top 3 projections to where he was drafted. If Sanders does amazing, the owner looks like a genius. If not, then not a whole lot of money is invested in the pick.

Yeah, this is the owner's, HC and GM's saving grace. A team's future isn't altered because they miss on a fifth-round pick. So this was a safe pick for the Browns, they won't have much invested and actually hedged their bets by picking the Oregon QB earlier in the draft. Sanders is a trial-and-error move at relatively minimal cost and risk.

It's hard not to feel entitled when you have been given everything. It's even harder when you are 21, have a Lamborghini, a Tesla truck, and millions to spend. He will never have to work a day in his life regardless of his NFL success.
One of the main issues is Daddy Sanders passed down his brashness and uber confidence to his offspring. DS gets a pass from many due to him (more times than not) being able to back it up. Shadeur has accomplished very little in the game of football relatively speaking. His dad carries a plethora of accolades and is considered an all-time great. Shadeur has much to prove, yet he carries himself as if he has been a 10-time pro bowler and won multiple Super Bowl rings as the starting QB. There is absolutely nothing wrong with confidence and believing in yourself, I actually condone it, but there also needs to be a dose of reality combined with it. Shadeur has an opportunity to prove that he is coachable and that he is willing to put in the work that comes with playing signal caller at the highest level. The last name is irrelevant from this point moving forward. He has yet to do this, so it will be interesting to see if he can pivot away and become his own man. Many young people shy away from the shadow of their celebrity parents, Shadeur has built a cot in his dad's shadow and has ordered another round of pina colada's...

Teams either thought he was a good QB or they didn't.
Teams either thought he was a head case or they didn't.

So to get drafted early in the draft, Sanders needed a team that
1. Thought he was a good qb
2. Wasn't a head case
3. Needed a QB

The Sanders team probably figured that they were set because it was such a weak draft for QBs, plus the fact that there always seems to be SOMEONE willing to take a round one chance on a QB (See Richardson, Anthony).

Instead, they weren't the 2nd qb taken in the draft--they were the second QB taken on the team. The fact that it was the Browns just makes it <chef's kiss>.

Daddy Sanders was brash and arrogant but he earned his status and backed it up. As a father I know how you can have a blind spot for your kids weaknesses. He's been able to cover him to this point but that ship has sailed. He can complain and throw shade all he wants but his kids going to have to earn success from here on out. Good thing is Shedeur's rich already from merch, so it's kind of irrelevant if he plays a down or not.

It was intentional. They could have picked him up in round 2. But they could see no one wanted him, so they let it slide to the 5th round. Now they don't have to pay him as much.

This may have been posted on this thread already but Adam Schefter said something like the Sanders family name has gone from Primetime to About Time!

How much TV time will Sanders get while sitting on the bench during the Brown's opening game? I suspect it will exceed all the time we had to see Taylor Swift at the Chiefs games all last year.

When you are professional organization why would you want Deion Sanders commenting on your coaching or franchise? The kid by himself may be ok to deal with even if he has an attitude. That can be worked on, but Primetiime is going to be a headache and the circus could cost a coach and GM their jobs. Why take that on when the young man is an above average college QB, but he's not Peyton Manning, John Elway, or Dan Marino. Pass on the headache until it's a low enough pick that cutting him costs you virtually nothing.

I can't wait until Deion makes his first sly comment about what the Browns are doing and Cleveland's HC is asked about it and responds, "I have a lot of respect for Coach Sanders but maybe he needs to focus on the Buffalo's a little more and maybe they won't get beat 34-3 again this week like they did last week."

I suspected this would happen even before the draft.

What NFL team wants the circus atmosphere that Deion will bring. There is no way his kid is going to play on an NFL team without Deion's looking over the coach's shoulder, or constantly questioning moves by the team. Why would they want this headache?
This right here. He's never played for anyone but daddy. From hs when daddy was his oc thru college. Bet if you could search back before high school, daddy was coaching him down to travel.

And his Dad was a huge showboat. But guess what? He could back it up. Deion was a phenomenal athlete, two sports.

Shedeur went 13-12 in his two seasons, and Diddy pulled strings to get his number retired.

He was brash and arrogant while meeting with team officials. Is there any wonder why he wasn't drafted?
