You're right. That was a totally unnecessary comment and it didn't contribute to the article at all. The quality of journalism reflects the society we live in today. In journalism, as in the general population, education and couth went with Elvis. They left the building. I read the paper each day and I'm dismayed at the lack of quality writers. I've never seen the print media in such bad shape. Terrible spelling and grammer from so-called professionals. I think Dodd probably washed out of basketweaving, so he took journalism instead.

I refuse to dignify that comment with a response, despite the urge to email and rant/rave at him. Obviously, the entire article was filled with sarcastic humor, but was Tyrone's horrific injury the only thing he could find to joke about for Alabama?? :conf2:

well, i wrote him and told him that if tyrone were my son, old dennis would need to hire a security detail.

i also wrote the editors to complain.

there's no excuse for this kind of writing at the expense of a kid.

i have to disagree with the notion that writing to complain about this kind of journalistic flotsam and jetsom somehow dignifies dodd's comments.

he's crossed a line of decency and he and his bosses need to be told.

Everybody should send this article to ABC3340 and other news stations. I sent a feed back to Dennis Dodd and told him that i think that he should resign because it makes no sense for a professional journalist to say anything like that. If everyone is serious about what they wrote I don't know if I want you representing the University of Alabama. Show some restraint and intelligence when responding to something like this. By just flying off the handle everyone is feeding into the stereotype that leads to Dodd's type of remarks. And quotes like Nate's do no good because I do not think he specified which comments offended him so.

I just wrote this to cbs.sportsline.

I think Dennis Dodd's comment about Tyrone Prothro in his bowl breakdown was out of line. I really don't see why this website would publish that. It was uncalled for to make jokes about a young man who spent 3 weeks in the hospital with an injury received while playing a game that makes Dodd so much money. I think Tyrone deserves an apology. I think Dodd's readers deserve an apology. I really enjoyed this website until this morning. I am not so sensitive that I think my football program is beyond reproach or tasteful jokes, but his comment is neither of those things. It was petty and snide and just mean spirited. If Dodd's child were hurt...if it was YOUR child who broke his leg in such a horrific matter...would any of this be so funny? I hope CBS is proud to sign that man's paycheck.

What he said was a hurtful. Now what I said was just out of frustration, I just wanted to let him know how I felt. Besides he is nothing. Also, I just woke up and this just helped me wake up this morning. Do not take what I said out of context it is all in fun.

Mr. Dodd,
Your comment about Tyrone Prothro was completely classless. I realize you have to make a pun in every sentence you write to verify to the rest of the world how smart you are, but you need to understand that this young man suffered a serious injury that put him in the hospital for three weeks. Why can't you just point out the offense vs. defense showdown instead of saying that? You might want to take a step back and think about whether or not you would have written that garbage if it was your child or friend that had been hurt. My guess ---probably not!
