It’s not that the Buckeyes overlooked Smith; it’s that he outclassed them so thoroughly that it was easy to mistake their helplessness for negligence.

I really respect tOSU as a blue blood program and I don’t want say anything that seems like rubbing salt in a wound for you B1G....

I’ll just say I could not believe that strategy to run a 4-4-3 defense when Alabama’s best player (Smitty) is a Game Breaking WR and our 3rd best receiving option was Najee slipping out of the backfield.

Then when I saw Tuf Borland isolated one on one with DeVonta my brain went straight to....

I can only assume it felt as helpless as I felt watching Alabama trying to contain Ezekiel Elliot in 2014.

It felt bad man... lol

Won a title on biggest NC catch ever as freshman, then goes out and gets 3 TDS in senior NC game, way to start and end a Bama career for sure. He is a special player and young man. I also love he was humble and a team player, never whined when he was not top target, just did his job and look at him now. Lesson to all great players coming into college football, no mouth running, let the feet do the running LOL

Sometimes a player is just so good he make the others look bad, they were not bad they just had the misfortune of trying to cover the uncoverable, look at his career no one ever shut him down, no one.

This got me thinking about all the great receivers we have had just under Saban.

Julio, Cooper, Calvin Ridley, OJ Howard (ok he was a TE but dude was a massive pass catcher), Ruggs, Jeudy, Waddle, Smith. And those last 4 were all on the same team together at some point. Absolutely stupid amount of WR talent.

Smith is definitely the most decorated and accomplished WR in College football history and this season will be remembered forever for all the the team had to overcome to make these achievements happen.

If you were going to mention OJ Howard then I think Irv Smith has to be in your list as well

He def made himself an xtra 7 or 8 figures coming back. I’m really wondering how much his 40 time improves after putting the effort in the weight room over the summer. He said they worked on first step quickness. He ran in high 4.4’s as a sophomore. If he can get down to a 4.4 flat, that will eliminate the chatter out there about his speed.

The LB was trailing and ended up trying to cover him. They were in a 3 deep zone. The Safety moved too far to the Offense's left with the other receivers and was way out of position to cover Smitty. Good play call or adjustments during play beat the poor zone coverage. (Props to Matt Wyatt film analysis.)
