Crimson Tide scheduled to play three scrimmages this week

Oct. 11, 2011

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –
In week three of the Alabama baseball team fall practice schedule, the Crimson Tide had three days of practice and three intrasquad scrimmages. Week four of fall practice continues on Tuesday, with the Crimson Tide having two practice days early in the week, followed by three scrimmages to close the week.

“This team continues to improve with each practice day and we are very encouraged by the progress our young pitchers are making,” head coach Mitch Gaspard said. “Offensively, we have a chance to be really good. The hitters are showing a lot of balance, and should hit for average and power this season. Defensively, we’re rounding into form and are very solid up the middle. We’re halfway through the fall season and all phases of the team are progressing very well.”

Scrimmages this week will take place at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Scrimmages are open to the public and free of charge. Thursday and Friday’s games will start around 3:30 p.m., while Saturday’s scrimmage will begin around 10:30 a.m.

I ain't buying it. Not until we see these young guys throw against someone other than their team mates. We seem to be too dang young on the mound. Geez, but I wish that Hawley was healthy.

One thing is for sure-with not being handcufffed by the Nike bats we will not have to be as sound on defense, the bats are going to make for a huge difference. Agree that pitching is going to be a problem if leaders don't step up. Not real sure what is going on with Wolfe, seems to be really struggling this fall with command. It would be great to have someone step up and do what Smart did last year as a closer. Time will tell who those players are.
