Did Prothro's & Closner's injury really get us here?

I believe it would be much more competitive, with Prothro out there as a playmaker and Closner as the O-line leader, yes. We might not be ahead but we wouldn't be getting hammered like we're a 1-AA team today.

Closner's injury really hurt. The OL is paper-thin already. The starters are young and inexperienced. Opposing coaches have figured out that our running game isn't a threat, so now they tee off on Brodie on practically every friggin play. Our offensive woes begin and end on the OL, period. Changing coaches and keeping a great skill-position player won't change the fact that our starting OL consists of two freshmen, one sophomore, one junior and a walk-on senior.

Sad, really sad

I am really embaressed. The O-line looks pathetic. At the start of the game I thought Brodie did not have his head in the game, but this O-line is really bad.

Everyone get ready to yell at me, I am glad we don't look like we are going to win. I don't want see us embaressed versus Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. It would be really bad for recruiting.

WELL IT SURE AS HECK THROUGH THE CHEMISTRY & RHYTHM OFF..............at a time in the season when it's too late to get it BACK... As I've said before : AU wins again (by default - injuries making them lucky in addition to the other insurmountable obstacles for Bama)

I'm sorry, but that win was not by default. We were whipped...plain and simple. There was no luck involved today. Unfortunately.

Coach Bryant would have told him during the ole Miss game, "Son, this is the last time you wear a crimson jersey."
Coach Bryant would have saw the effort in the first quarter of today's game and told the entire first team offense to take their pads off, go shower and get the hell on the bus until the game was over.

I wonder if any of the coaches have gone nuts on these guys and gotten in faces like the LSU offensive line coach did last saturday. He punched a friggin' hole through the dry erase board on the sidelines and went nuts on all his linemen.

I'm tired of hearing injuries as excuses.

I didn't expect Bama to win today, but I did expect effort. I did expect a competitive game.

Why can't our offense at least be up to Vanderbilt standards? Is that really asking too much?

To be frank...

I'm more embarrassed by someone who purports to graduate from our university this year who tries to spell the word and comes up with "embaressed." But, then, I'm sure my priorities are all screwed up... :D

I don't think that injuries is the only reason the team lost - but I think it is a major one of several. We got beat. Pure & simple. But when things are different & more equalized in about 3 years, things are sure going to be different...

And Earl - Amazing, I was thinking the same thing... :)

Closner's injury hurt us more than Proethro's injury. Pure and simple which I cant ever recall thinking an olinemans injury hurt more than the most productive skill player. At the same time we have Darby which is a quality playmaker which lightens the blow of Proethro, but nobody stepped in for Closner.

Football is a game full of injuries. I doubt we will ever have a season when no one gets hurt, so I guess we will just continue to get worse as the year progresses every year. The offense was simply a joke yesterday. Of course we would have been better if Pro and Closner were out there, but there is NO EXCUSE for looking as pathetic as we did. The coaches must adapt to the strengths of the players who are on the field. Continually trying to pass from the pocket was just insane. I am fully aware of how the probation has made us thin, but we can either adapt to what the players can do, or we can continue to make excuses. I don't think we have made our reputation by making excuses. Some of our "die-hard" sunshine-pumping fans may be satisfied with excuses, but I will never be satisfied with what I saw yesterday. I doubt the players and coaches are satisfied. I would bet that they are embarrassed, and I hope they are working on solving the problems. Roll Tide.
