Did the officials ever apologize for the call?

:conf2: Have the officials ever had a reputation of "apologizing" for a call? I think its kind of ridiculous to think that they would and I don't believe anyone should expect an apology. What's done is done. Bad calls and human error are just factors of the game.

It makes for good discussion though.

I am glad I'm not an official. What a thankless job. Of the 5-6 years I've been on this forum, I honestly cannot remember a single thread praising or thanking an officiating crew for how good they were. When they are good, no one says a thing. When they make mistakes, people want to hang them.

To me, it looked like Dre had possession and was on the ground, but it was tough to tell at full speed. The officials were definitely confused on that call.

I still say it should have been out ball. JoePa sending out the defense said enough.

On the spots yes I agree there too. They were HORRIBLE!

Honestly, the thing that most people seem to be over-looking is that the original "ruling" on the field was Alabama ball at the 1 yard line. Go back and look at the replay. The head official doesn't seem sure of himself, but he definitely points in Bama's direction.

Then, of all things, he takes off the headset and announces that the ruling on the field stands (which, coincidentally, is why the stadium erupted - Bama fans aren't stupid), but then he gave Penn State the ball first and ten from the 3 yard line. Huh?

The head official must have forgotten the original call, because there's no way that there was indisputable video evidence on that replay that Dre lost control of that ball before hitting the ground at the 1 yard line. And if you pay close attention, I don't believe that there was a clear consensus among the officials, either, especially one of the younger officials...
