I looked online about buying some tickets. There are 3 states that don't allow online purchase. Yep, Alabamy is one of the three. Any ideas?

I was talking to a school teacher a few years ago about the lottery. I called it "a tax on stupidity." She responded, "I play the lottery all the time." Awkward moment.
Since that day, I have changed my view. Now, I call it, "a tax on irrational hope."
I rarely buy a ticket. It has to hit at least half a billion before I even consider buying a ticket. It is sad that some people will be dropping hundreds of dollars and it's people that don't have hundreds of cents (or sense).

I've always heard it described as a tax on people who suck at math.

Just out of curiosity, I have always heard that you should talk to a lawyer before collecting. What kind of lawyer?
there is a great reddit thread on why you don't want to win the lottery, full of statistics, numbers and actual results from those who do (spoiler, lots of death, broken lives and bankruptcy) which is then followed by a post for what to do if you win. It is really solid advice but since it is reddit I can't post it here. I will cut and paste the part that answers your question however. If you were to cut and google what I put below you should find the entire post if you want.

/ 1. IMMEDIATELY retain an attorney.

Get a partner from a larger, NATIONAL firm. Don't let them pawn off junior partners or associates on you. They might try, all law firms might, but insist instead that your lead be a partner who has been with the firm for awhile. Do NOT use your local attorney. Yes, I mean your long-standing family attorney who did your mother's will. Do not use the guy who fought your dry-cleaner bill. Do not use the guy you have trusted your entire life because of his long and faithful service to your family. In fact, do not use any firm that has any connection to family or friends or community. TRUST me. This is bad. You want someone who has never heard of you, any of your friends, or any member of your family. Go the the closest big city and walk into one of the national firms asking for one of the "Trust and Estates" partners you have previously looked up on http://www.martindale.com from one of the largest 50 firms in the United States which has an office near you. You can look up attorneys by practice area and firm on Martindale.

I have heard all the horror stories. The crop up every time the lotto gets huge like this. About 90% of my family sucks, so if I won I would have to disappear completely. Georgia is a state where you can remain anonymous but people would figure it out. I mean they will say where the ticket was bought and suddenly the designking quits his job and disappears? You don't have to be Columbo to figure it out.
