Do you have a Pet Peeve (Part II)

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I really, really don't like people who suck at being human beings. Unfortunately, that is a wide and deep category.

I have a four-day work week with Mondays off. So, that has become my day for running errands and scheduling doctor and dentist appointments and things like that. After being out all morning, I was heading home on a two-lane road. It's Florida, so there are ponds everywhere. And with that comes all the wildlife. In this instance I saw a turtle that was looking to cross the road. It was still on the shoulder but soon would be entering traffic. Fortunately, it is not an overly-busy road, and I turned around to retrieve the little guy with plans to put him in a nearby pond. I completed doubling back and parked on the opposite shoulder of the road on the eastbound lane. There were three vehicles coming down the westbound lane, so I would have to wait for them to clear before I could cross the street and get the turtle. I never got the chance. The last vehicle - a crappy pickup driven by a redneck (of course) - swerved out of his lane and onto the shoulder and crushed the turtle. Right in front of me. Makes me sick! Pointless and evil! May this asshat meet a similar fate!:mad::mad:

That driver will definitely get their comeuppance. I believe in karma.

That's beyond a pet peeve. It's abusing (in this case, killing) something that can't fight back. Guaranteed, he abuses other animals, children and women. There's a special place in hell for him and people like him.

Had a similar situation this weekend. Driving to Tampa to take an SUV-load of possessions to Lily as she gets settled into her dorm. There was a turtle that was almost all the way across the road - just had the last half of the right lane to go. Because it was moving across the road (and not stationary on the shoulder like the previous turtle), I recognized it well in advance. The car in front of me did not stop, but thankfully just went over the top of the turtle. I hit the hazards and pulled over. I waved the truck coming up behind me to a stop and ushered the turtle across the road. I then picked him/her up and walked about fifty feet into the scrub and made sure he was moving away from the road when I turned him loose. Got cut up a bit on sticker vines, so I hope turtle appreciates the sacrifice. Never formally thanked me though. 🤷‍♂️

I was tempted to say something - but hard as it was I held back. I mean....my name isn't Karen....yet!

One of my pet peeves is people who talk too loud in public - in particular construction workers! You don't run across it on every job but enough times it's come to grate on my nerves!

The guy on the left....blah blah blah blah blah....blah blah blah blah blah..........blah blah blah blah blah........loud enough to hear 5 houses over easily and for the entire 2 hours I was there today!

I mean live and let live - but when I'm doing my gardening work a large portion of the enjoyment comes from the serenity that comes with it, outside of power tool usage....which this was not.

SMH........

We've pretty much already covered everything in the first Pet Peeve thread. But I think it's one of the best threads in the history of this talk forum, if you read through it....😁

So is this a Pet Peave thread or a Pet Pet Peave thread? ;) 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

People at the airport…drives me crazy. You aren’t the only one here guy with ear buds that is trying to sound important in front of a bunch of strangers.

Introverts can be really confusing at times, especially in the workplace. I've got a coworker who literally has an office right next to mine. Our offices share a wall. I get that introverts traditionally like to be left to themselves, they are very internal processing people, who have a smaller social tank than extroverts. So when I come across an introvert, I respect those traits and try not to overstimulate them with social behavior that I'd commonly do with a non-introvert.

However, there are some social behaviors that get on my nerves about introverts (not all of them, just the ones who do these things) and this coworker exhibits these behaviors.

This coworker NEVER speaks to me first and if I don't speak to them they'll literally not speak to me all day. In the morning, it is very common when people enter the office they say "good morning" to those whose offices they pass to get to their office. This person never does, ever. They never say good morning to anyone. Today, the office is celebrating my birthday early (it's this weekend) and they decorated the inside and outside of my office for when I came in this morning. Literally every person in the office has popped in and wished me happy birthday. This coworker, again, whose office is right next to mine has yet to even speak to me. Which is nothing new.

But here's where I have the "pet peeve". If I don't speak to them for a few days, I'll get an email from them asking if they "did anything wrong" because I haven't spoken to them. This has happened several times and the last time it happened I just walked in their office and told them:

"Look, if the only way we're going to interact is if I speak to you or acknowledge you then we're probably not going to interact much. You never speak or even acknowledge me (or anyone else in the office) unless I initiate it. You'll literally walk passed me in the hall and not even look at me or speak, even though we've not spoken all day. Which is fine with me, but then you'll turn around and send me an email asking is something wrong because I haven't spoken to you in two days. Social dialogue is a two way street and if you don't have any interest in ever speaking to me unless I speak to you, then I don't know what to tell you. You can't have it both ways."

If you're going to be an introvert with the above types of tendancies, then don't complain or be surprised when your world only has a population of one in it. Don't expect people to cater to your social demands without making an attempt to meet them halfway.

So what was their reply to this?

So what was their reply to this?

They explained (or tried to) what being an introvert was like and it didn't mean they didn't want anyone speaking to them. They were just more comfortable letting other people approach them rather than the other way around.

My response was "I get that, but aren't there a lot of times that introverts like being left alone and not having to interact with people?". To that they said "Yes". So my response was "So that puts me in a weird situation. I have no idea if you want to be spoken to, but are just waiting on someone to do so or you aren't in the mood to interact with people. I think the better solution is for you to learn to meet people half way and not put all the responsibility on the other person to try and figure out whether you're wanting to be spoken to, but are just waiting to spoken to, or you don't want to be spoken to at all."

They actually agreed that would be the best way. But that conversation was a while back and they haven't changed a bit. Just like today, the office is celebrating my birthday (even though its not until Saturday) and literally everyone has popped in and wished me happy birthday yet they haven't even said one word to me all day and their office is literally right beside mine. LOL!

Love this thread...lol.....it's like therapy!

I have 2.5 today.

1. Why do (most of) the callers on Finebaum feel the need to YELL?

2. Why do people feel the need to start every statement with "So"?

2.5. - to complete the trifecta - at the dentist today my hygienist tells me "second door on the right" as we are walking back for my dental checkup/cleaning. She says this while I'm passing a doorway. So is it the 2nd room past the one I'm passing or is she including the one I'm passing as the first door. Well son of a gun...the rooms have numbers. Ours is #4. Just tell me go to Room #4 on my right - I promise I will find it OK....

I have to say though she was FANTASTIC!!! And I'm not just saying that because she knows college football (which she does) and is rooting for Florida.
