I am in the process of looking for a new home and I was thinking about buying a Ryan or Ryland home. Do any of you have direct experience with one of their homes? I dont want stuff that you read off the internet (I've already read all of the hate sites on homebuilders). So please let me know if you have any direct experiences (you, family, close friends) on their communities.

Thanks.

A friend at wok just built a home with Ryland. Overall, they had positive things to say about the experience.

But as with any homebuilder, you will need to stay on them and nit pick everything to make sure the home is completed to your standards.

I bought one 20+ years ago. It was fine. They save some money by fabbing framing in a shop and delivering to the site, rather than framing from ground-up. I would advise getting a big angle and checking the framed corners for squareness, though.

Some of their models are really nice. For example:

Is that a high rise trailer home? I don't think that Ryan or Ryland build homes like that. An open garage.

I would hate to have a young child living there.

Also, I would not want to be in there during a tornado!

I think it is worth the money to hire someone to inspect any home that you buy no matter who the builder is. It's hard to find all problems on your own. I was with the inspector during the inspection and pointed out areas also that I had seen. The inspector completed a very detailed inspection report.

The builder corrected the problems, but to make sure I hired the inspector to come back at a reduced price after the modifications just to make sure.
