Does LSU not having Perrilloux REALLY hurt them?

I've been reading and hearing all week that the loss of Perrilloux will hurt the Tigers.

Now, that may very well be. But, thinking back to the LSU/Auburn game a couple of weeks ago, I got the impression that having Perrilloux in there did more to confuse LSU's own offense than it did to confuse Auburn's defense. When trying to switch personell, they had to burn a couple of timeouts, and Auburn's defense was better against Perrilloux than they were with Flynn.

Maybe that was just me, but that was the impression I got.

It does help Bama to prepare for one QB instead of two, but LSU seemed to move more smoothly with Flynn than Perrilloux, IMHO.

I think it does in certain situations it matters. It certainly makes them more vanilla on third down, as LSU could use RP in fake handoffs to TH, run the option, and he can throw really well.

Plus, now they have to use a backup that has never played.

he's accounted for 8 TDs.....6 throwing and 2 running (I was surprised at that). But the last few weeks he's looked pretty bad. Don't know if it hurts lsu, but surely it helps us in our preparation.....prepare for Flynn instead of the possibility of a running threat.

Didnt that FSU dual threat QB come in the game and kick our tails? I think LSU not having a dual threat QB is a big deal for us.

IMO the only time it would hurt LSU is if Flynn were knocked completely out of the game. I agree it appears that Flynn loses rhythm and continuity when Perrilloux comes in even for a few plays or a couple of series. I said earlier that Flynn is the key to this game, if we are playing man and he takes off he can hurt us. I just don't think Perrilloux's absence will affect the outcome of the game.

Do they have a third one on hand? I agree with TiM....RP seemed to hinder game plan against barners rather than help....but I'm suspicious of anything unknown and unconfirmed....I do think Flynn believes this is his chance for 'LSU Glory' -and he deserves a reward 'for patiently waiting behind JR for 4 years'. He'll be self-motivated. I expect Alabama to be more so.....:)

Exactly. RP being out doesn't delete LSU's QB rushing threat. Flynn has been playing hurt, and now he's near 100%. He's a threat to take off any time.

LSU's rushing game bothers me more than anything else about this matchup. They have so many options: Flynn, Hester, Williams, Scott, Murphy... AND that little fast guy. Yikes.

It doesn't hurt them at all. It may even help them. His fumble almost cost them the Auburn game and with him gone they have one less team distraction to worry about. Plus, it helps the team to see your coach make a tough decision. I think it is a good thing for them and will help not only this game, but their program.

I'm getting so tired of hearing that LSWHO players were hurt and now they're 100% that it's sickening. What happened did everyone suddendly become healed...Did Earnest Angley fly to Baton Rouge and HEAL everyone? They are certainly better but I highly doubt Flynn has suddenly been HEALED. Also, Flynn IS NOT 1/2 the runner Perrilloux is and for anyone to believe he is, is funny. Flynn is maybe a step faster than JPW and is not a true DUAL THREAT. This doesn't hurt LSWHO but it HELPS Bama.

Just because he has made a few mistakes of late the guy has accounted for 8 TD's this year and countless good plays. This is NOT a help but it doesn't necessarily hurt either. It helps Bama however.

I'm with you, TiM...I think it actually HELPS LSU. I've never been a fan of using 2 QB's. Ever. I think it makes both of the 2 less effective...

It is huge that we don't have to prepare for two different style QB's.

But where i think it truly hurts them is on situations like 4th and goal from the three when you have no idea whether to think run or pass. He could do either. And that's very tough to defend.

Ultimately though it's going to come down to whether we can stop their running game.

We can't let them control the ball and have a chance. We need a shootout!!

I know he has not looked good the past couple of weeks, but for a while, I thought he should have been starting. I think it hurts them because he gives us more to think about. We did not do very well containing Xavier Lee, and we knew he and Weatherford were going to play. I think it could go either way, but it goes more towards our favor.

I agree with those that have pointed out the FSU game. We had issues containing a QB that could run...simple fact is, our D isn't that quick this year...Not saying I'm glad to see any college student get in trouble...but I will be glad to not see RP on the field tomorrow. I don't know if it hurts LSU...but a running QB is something that I don't think our boys can handle very well this year...I feel much more comfortable with Flynn in there...even though I think Flynn is the better QB...I just think it's a question of styles.

In the first part of the season, Perrilloux added a new dimension to the offense that the defense was not ready for. Perrilloux was awesome against VT and MTSU. He even had some good runs agaisnt SC and Florida. But I guess these defenses are watching more videotape and realizing that 99% of the time Perrilloux will run an option.

Perrilloux nearly cost us the Auburn game so I guess it's a good thing he's missing the Bama game. There was one play where Perrilloux faked the option and was set to pass but missed a wide open WR because Auburn got good pressure on the play.

But you're correct, when Perrilloux came in, the offense looked pretty confused on what play to run next. So I'm kinda glad he's sitting out this game.

This is Perrilloux first season to get any playing time, so I won't let one fumble in the Auburn game cause me to think that he's a liability to the team. In fact, he's been a valuable asset, especially in the red zone. The change-up at quarterback has complicated every rival defensive coordinators' plans this year.

Flynn can go the whole game without him, but if he gets injured, LSU will miss having an experienced quarterback to put in the game. Hatch, a transfer from Harvard, has no SEC experience and was signed to be another practice arm while the talented Lee, a true freshman, was expected to be redshirted.

I'm not surprised that Les would bench Perrilloux for missing so much practice this week, but I'm surprised that he will not make the trip at all, since he's LSU's only experienced backup. He wasn't arrested or charged with anything, so why jeopardize the whole team's chances for winning the West?
