No.

Do I ever watch a Mizzou game just because? No.

Do I ever even think about them as anything but another game on our schedule when we play? No.

Great academic school that elevates the overall prestige of the SEC sort of like a Vandy but overall better sports. Still not an SEC school. No matter how long they're in the conference.

Having just recently moved from Missouri after spending a year in Kansas City, imo Missouri is very much a midwestern state. I visited Columbia and the Mizzou campus too. Still the Midwest. I had to own a snow shovel, had 1ft of snow in November, 2ft of snow in Jan, they are prepared with salt dumping and snow plows everywhere, it is NOT the south.

They are proud of their BBQ but honestly, I wasn’t that impressed. They put too much syrupy BBQ sauce on it.

Are we talking culture / characteristics or geography?

If the former, I say no. If the latter, I say probably more than Stanford belongs in the ACC.

I’ll say this… when I lived in Nebraska I mingled with a lot of mizzou fans. It was when they were in the big XII and first few years of the SEC.

Sure they are Midwest but they aren’t too different to Tennessee as a state and a people (depending on what part of the state). I think they are more SECish than Arkansas and the Texas teams but it’s still more B1G feel.

I will say the Kansas-Mizzou rivalry is absolutely the most insane rivalry Ive ever been around. You would just have to experience it year in and year out. You think Alabama-Auburn and Ohio St-Michigan is petty… you haven’t seen the level of pettiness and absolute hatred amongst fans until you see a yearly rivalry between these two.

I cannot recall if I can remember this correctly but it was really a choice either Missouri or West Virginia to join the SEC at that time. Myself I picked Missouri and I believe it was the right choice.

No it was never a choice between them and WVU. What happened was Nebraska had a contract 1 year less than Mizzou and caught wind that Mizzou was having back room conversations with the B1G about leaving in 2012. Nebraska screwed Mizzou over by jumping them to the B1G in 2011 and Mizzou was basically in a floater contract with the Big XII in 2011. The SEC’s interest was made upon 2 things… 1) the markets of KC and St Louis and 2) the fact that Mizzou had no legally binding restrictions preventing them from joining immediately.

Basically Mizzou and Colorado wanted out way before Nebraska and aTm ever considered it because they were getting viewed as an afterthought by Texas. Colorado and Mizzou were brought into the Big XII because Nebraska and Oklahoma jumped ship. They never liked the idea of being in a conference range by Texas.

Mizzou was going to go independent in 2012. But aTm had enough and both conspired against Texas hoping Oklahoma would back them in jumping to the SEC with potentially Virginia Tech (who was considering it back in 2010). But Oklahoma chickened out and Virginia Tech was suddenly no longer interested after constantly flirting with the possibility for years. So basically the SEC got Mizzou uncontested by the Big XII due to a lack of contract, but Texas used Baylor to hold up Texas A&M for nearly a month in order to convince Oklahoma back to the table. Finally when Oklahoma got back with Texas everything moved quickly and we got two new members.

Texas was the 1,2, and 3 reasons for the conference realignment of the 2008-2012 moves.

I went to the Homecoming parade in 2018 and ill tell you from experience. Mingled with some Mizzou fans and they were cordial, but while the bana fans were drinking beer and such, a lot of Mizzou fans were dressed nice and were drinking wine with the stem between they're fingers. Nuff said.

I know why, for TV markets. Mizzou just does not fit in, but money will always be the most important thing. Tex and Okla are perfect examples. They don't fit either, but bring big bucks so all is well whether us dumb fans like it or not.
